Any time I've went to either a regular barber, like the one I went to for 10 years in Jacksonville, Florida, or to a hair-styling place, like Fantastic Sam's or Supercuts, each barber or stylist displayed their barber license on the mirror at their station. Very visible to anyone getting a haircut. Well, yesterday, I went to a new barbershop locally, that has a flag waving outside with a picture of a barber pole on it. The old barber shop had been sold and two new barbers were inside. I had been to this one a few times. When I seen the sigh that read "Under New Management", I decided to check it out inside for a minute. I told my wife yesterday that I was really curious if the two barbers inside the shop were licensed, because no license was displayed on their station mirror. When I walked in for a haircut, I did ask them about the license and was told they each had one. I got my haircut there, but probably won't return. It was cut much, much shorter than I had requested. So, my question is..........are all barbers and hairstylist required to display their license at their station? I know there are those that wouldn't care or even look for a license, but I'm not one of them.
I don't have a license but I am a barber. I have cut my own hair for 15 months now. The color coded hair clipper attachments are doing a good job. I still have a little trouble with the back of my neck, but all else is a breeze, and I have a full head of hair, even at my age. In fact, I should have been doing this for years. The nice thing about it is that I can see a spot that needs work and I can fix it without going anywhere, and at any time. My wife's bathroom has a great 3-way mirror, and I very rarely mess anything up. In fact, except for the shaving along my hair line, I give myself a better cut than the barbers I use to go to. So if you're ever near by neighborhood, stop by for a trim. I won't even charge you. How's that?
I cut my own hair and have for years. I never have to leave the house and sit till it's my turn. I sure do miss reading the magazines though.
Earlier this year, we bought Wahl clippers, colored clipper attachments and a nice professional comb and scissors came with it. My wife used the tapper attachment on the back of my head/neck, because the hair stylist that cut my hair, didn't tapper the back like I asked her to. Wife done a terrific job, but my hair was way to thick this time to try and cut any of it with the Wahl clippers. Just like someone working on our boat or vehicle, we like a professional doing it. So, we have these professional clippers and attachments, if we ever need to use them.
Well, I looked for my state concerning displaying a barbers license, but could find nothing. However, I did read that a barber can't work unless he/she has a valid license. I remember, at the Florida barber shop I went to, the owner hired a young guy, who was just finished barber school, to work for him. Unfortunately, he was taking too long to apply/get his license and the owner of the shop told him he had a week to get it or he wouldn't be allowed to work in the shop until he did. The owner told him "I don't want to be sued over you not having your license yet".
