@Chrissy Cross My wife watches Dr. Nowzaradan (Dr. Now of "600 lb. Life"). I happened to be passing through once, and heard him say, whil;e performing surgery, that the longer anesthesia is imposed, the greater risk to the patient. Some article long ago stated the Anesthesiologist is the highest-paid individual in the OR. Frank
My dad died from the same operation. He had a valve replacement which, according to the surgeon, was very hard to attach and would have to be replaced at some point. They didn't dare opt for another valve during the operation because of dad's failing condition during the procedure so they closed. He was never strong enough to have the second operation and about a year and a half later died of a heart attack due to the faulty valve.
I once watched a heart operation, narrated by one of the surgeons present. They had stopped the heart, meanwhile diverting blood flow via hooked-up connections. Upon retarting the heart, the surgeon remarked about how amazing it always to witness the degree of persistence present to continue beating. Frank
