would love some feedback on anyone that is pretty much into bicycling. I want to get some ideas on what I should buy. I can't afford a lot, and I won't be going out of the main roads around my small town. We have great bicycle paths, and yes, I'm going to have all I need, helmet etc.

The main issue I've had in the past has been the seats being uncomfortable. I think now they at least have "gel" or memory foam seats. But I ride a ways, since I am used to walking 6 miles at a shot, I plan to do the bike at least that far, maybe farther if I am able.

I am not an exercise junky, I am fearing the aches and pains of growing older, and just want to do all I can to "maybe" avoid some of the issues we older folks start getting, or already have.

We don't have any hills to speak of, so I don't need a lot of gears, plus I don't ride anywhere that is secluded by myself. I'll ride on the side streets, the ocean blvd., but not 101, forget that last one, scarey:(

Ok, hope some of you can help me out. Big 5 has some nice looking bikes for about 100 bucks, a little more actually, if I want some gears. Here's the link I looked at lastnight:

About 8 years ago I bought a 3 wheeled bike. Then, I discovered my knees weren't up to the pedaling. The bike is still sitting in my daughters garage. I'd give a lot to be able to ride a bike again.

I'm sorry Ike:( I do have a little bit of a problem with my knees I noticed if I do a lot of stepping up. I see where that could affect me riding a biking, same sort of motion. Hmm, well, I'll have to research it well before I spend any dough on one.

There's a lot of things we have to give up as we age. Life isn't fair. As we get older we appreciate life so much more, but when our bods aren't holding up, we can't do the things we "didn't" appreciate when we were kids. Geez, don't even want to think about the things I didn't do when I sure could have:(

One thing I noticed because like you I thought of getting a bike to get around and I'm 61. I ride the bus only. When it rains some bike riders ride the bus. Well, they put the bike on the bike rack on the bus front end. As I watch them do it, I notice it takes strength to lift the bikes onto the rack. They do it with ease and even some women lift it up on the rack too, but not too many women ride bikes. You got to have a license, have a tire kit for your flats and have a service station near by when in use for tire air too. If you plan to have a rack or some kind of rickshaw added to our bike best to look up ordinances about it. Bike paths locally are good for everyone and took some time to be built. If things get broken can you fix it or know where to go for repairs? Because of these things I decided not to get a bike and just ride the bus. We are going to have rail soon and the ads say you can use the bus pass for rail riding too, so I'm going to look into it for more information. Good luck on your decision. Weather plays a lot on when you can use a bike safely too.

    thanks for your input Krissttina,

Our weather is really moderate here, when it rains, I wouldn't ride the bike at all. But we will have maybe a few days of rain, then sunshine, all Winter, off and on like that, so lots of dry days to ride. I have my truck so if it's real cruddy out, I can drive. I just want to ride the bike to get my exercise, not for errands. Although I do plan on have a way to carry some things if I want to pick up something at a store;)

I used to bike in the village park where there are other bikers, joggers and aerobics dancers in the morning. There's lots of activities in the park and my biking is not confined to my bike for I get to know people so there is a bit of socializing.

There is the so called e-bike here that they sell for $600 for the 2-wheels and $800 for the 3-wheels. What's good in this e-bikes is that they are rechargeable and no noise since the engine is powered by electricity. You can pedal until you can and use the engine when you get tired. I am planning on getting one for myself but I'm still trying to think of a good reason because my husband is a spoiler when it comes to buying things. I had posted before that a "mouse" occasionally appears on my right leg (behind the shin) that may be due to fatigue.

You mean like a little, sort of nerve sensation behind your shin Corie? I have a few of those on different parts like my ankle, left knee etc. Always wonder what caused it, I don't have any pain from it though.

My brother bought one of those e-bikes. Lot's of folks have those. I wouldn't ride enough, or far enough to get too tired, plus I couldn't afford that much dough;) The socializing sounds fun. I love meeting people but this is a very, small area. There will be more people to meet though, the more I get out. We have a lot of joggers, bikers, walkers, site-see'rs etc.
