I'm not much of a clothes horse, but lately I've been losing some weight and so I've been out a few times looking at clothes. Digging through closets I do have some things from before I retired, but so much of that is work clothing and a lot might as well be tossed. Not really looking at significant investments, because I'm still downsizing my dimensions. But in the meantime things are getting baggy, good enough if we were back in COVID times but not so much today. The stores don't seem to cater to the older guy at all, unless you count bulky Christmas sweaters and Fred Sanford cardigans. Online things aren't much better. I assume I'm just looking in the wrong place. Any suggestions? Or is this one of those "bite the bullet and pay big" for a few key items with custom alterations? As an example, something like these would be nice at the right price:
Continued: But the fact is the belly's still too tight. A few more inches there would mean everything. Preferably without making the chest baggy and the bottom at my knees.
My husband is 69 and still wears the same size jeans he wore 40+ years ago. He mostly wears Levis and polo-type shirts; that's as "old guy" as he is willing to get.
Where does he get polo shirts with a pocket? And no hoodie? I found one, long sleeve with a pocket, online and it was so thin it wrinkled when you washed it.
I buy most of his shirts from Macy's or Kohl's. Some of them have pockets and some don't. I don't believe he uses the pockets so it doesn't matter to him. If you google "polo shirt with pockets" you get lots of options.
Sometimes you need a few things to supplement your Carhartts and sweats though. More so if you are single I suppose.
My husband doesn't own any sweats; he won't wear them. Just jeans or cargo shorts in summer. He has dress clothes but those are for "occasions." He always looks nice.
We have tons of department stores around here... Macy's, Dillards, Nordstrom, Kohl's, etc. There are also a couple of huge outlet malls, several regular malls, Costco and Sam's Club within 25 miles of here. I know what my husband likes and his size, so I can order familiar brands from their websites.
Not with long sleeves. I only found one online, and it was so cheaply made, sorry I got it. Polo shirts are too hot to wear here in the summer (short sleeves).
When Penny's closed its stores, I bought a style of shirt I from their website that I had purchased before in the store. The one I got from the store was nice thick fabric. The one from the website was like cheesecloth. I don't really have a need for much more than jeans and t-shirts these days. Maybe I'll drive the 40 miles into Richmond one of these days and power-shop.
My DH is the same @Beth Gallagher however I mentioned somewhere a few days ago he can no longer get his size stretch Levi’s because the tiny men’s ware shop in town said that size / style slim / fit is now being made to cater for younger men with larger backside's so they are to baggy for DH Levi’s used to be made in Adelaide ..now made in China He also likes RM Williams type of pants as well for something more dressy in the colder months they are moleskin / cargo / twill jean fit style in other colours. I like to see older men still dressing nice. RM Williams clothing is very popular with country folk / farmers / horse riding as they sell genuine leather boots / whips / belts / wallets / country check shirts even little children’s country wear clothing …..ect to cater for demand ( made in Adelaide ) https://www.blowesclothing.com.au/collections/r-m-williams-pants
I buy most of my clothes from Amazon. Shirts can be found anywhere, but pants in my size in a store almost never happen. They make pants in my size, and I can find them online, usually at Amazon, but they rarely carry my size in the stores.
My husband also has been buying his pants at Amazon. He found a brand that he likes — that works for him — so that makes it easy.
