Our city newspaper is on Facebook and, many, many times, I will read residents comments about different things. The "good, bad and ugly" about our police department, city council, houses being built, the virus stuff, population growth, what young folks are doing (illegally) and what Seniors aren't doing (like driving faster). When the wind blows from the east or west, the smell of local livestock. Livestock smell doesn't bother either of us. No murders/homicides for quite a while. No bank robberies either. Ft. Collins gets those. However, I've read that our downtown area has a somewhat big problem with meth and fentanyl. So, have any community problems similar to ours?
To a point, I wish Facebook would take our newspapers page down. People can get quite nasty towards each other, but it can make for some interesting reading. I sure don't like what some residents will say about our police force, but, I guess, it's what is called "Free Speech". Some will say, of which wife and I totally agree with, "have you ever been an Officer?", "have you ever tried to arrest someone who violently resisted?" and on and on. I, for myself, have worked beside law enforcement and have seen what some suspects will try to do. I was an EMT during those times. As far as our growing population and many houses going up, that's simply called "progress".........like it or not. We don't have a terribly bad meth or fentanyl drug problem, but it's definitely there (downtown). Some of our areas of downtown, do look "slummy", but............ We don't go into any of those areas, especially at night.
I’m not sure but I think the “next door” app is pretty much nation wide. It’s a neighborhood thing. Ours is “next door Penny / Foster and people from about a 5 or so mile radius write in the app about whatever is on their mind. So far as FB goes, we get the yard sale type of alerts and if someone steals a car or someone is wanted by the police. Stuff like that
I got suckered into signing up for Next Door a couple of years ago here in the middle of Virginia. Their tactics suck. I don't post on it because they use your real name and address, but I do read the occasional comment or two. There are not a lot of hot topics or debates there
I don't hear of a lot of crime in my county, but we're sort of bastard children that don't really belong to either of the two major TV media markets...we're stuck in between them. That's likely a good thing, since there's no air time that has to be filled...issues don't get magnified. There has been one (or maybe 2) homicides since I've been here, both of them family matters. Someone actually stopped & robbed the Stop & Rob up the road from me, and I only heard about it a year later through casual conversation. I don't understand how any areas can have drug problems. Politicians want to stop violence by making guns illegal in order to get rid of them, and since drugs have been illegal for over half a century, they should have been long gone.
we live in a small town of 1200 or so ....we don't know anyone... the town has a Facebook page....mostly events... if there's any crime...i wouldn't know
I just look at the replies on Facebook, never reply myself. I don't mind "some" debate, but some replies seem to go much further than that. For a cities name to be "Loveland", wife and I sure don't see that "love" here. The city is a long way from being a "small-town" environment where people wave "hi" to each other or talk to each other in local market. Years ago it was somewhat like that, when the population was some 15,000, but definitely not today with more than triple that population.
Well, we want to know about any crime that goes on in our apartment complex or city. Just the way we are.
THIS place would really annoy you: No one can figure out how the population keeps increasing...buncha liars.
@Teresa Levitt We encountered it many years ago heading toward L.A. Did not venture off I-15 to investigate. Frank EDIT: Impressive mountain scenery thereabouts......
