That surprises me Beth. For some reason I thought you would need much more space.

Could you now handle 800 and be happy?

    Probably.

I was house poor for so long, but I had everything I needed. When I started making better money suddenly my "wants" started to crowd me out.

800 square feet would be plenty if I ejected the junk...and if I had a workable kitchen. That was the one downside to my smaller home...the kitchen was a horrible place to work in.

I'm living in a studio apartment right now that's less than 300 square feet. I'm happy with it, less 2 clean.

If I were single at my age, I'd have no interest in living in a big house with a yard to keep up by myself.

Sure. I don't see why not, as long as I could leave whenever I wanted to.

I also would be fine with a place that size if I were single.
Bobby does so much here around the house and yard, and if he were not here, there is no way that I could manage this house on my own, and a little apartment with no yard to worry about would be what I would probably be looking for.
However, being able to get out of the apartment and do things, and having an exercise facility (which Lon’s assisted living complex has), and a place to go outside and enjoy the sunshine and walk around , would be requirements.
Or, at least be close to a fitness center, so I could go there and swim, would be fine, too.
If money were not an object, I think that I would still go for the cruise ship senior lifestyle, at least for a while.

    I gotta add....

I've been on Zillow to look at the home in Indiana where I spent my early childhood.

1,100 ft² with one tiny bathroom for 6 kids and 2 adults. Perhaps that's why I was perfectly content in a 600 ft² home for so many years...I had over 50% of the square footage of my childhood home where 8 people lived, all to myself.

Conversely, I worked for a woman who had a huge home for herself and her 2 children in suburbia. They had the playroom downstairs, the open floor plan, the vaulted ceilings. She told me that acclimating to that style of house really limited her future options because a rambler would feel like being in a dog cage.

My house is moderate 1400 sq feet but my yard is 10k sq feet. I would love to sell and was getting to that point, but then the lockdowns and now the economy in trouble. This is all I have and refuse to sell until I can get a fair price based on what I have and not the declining neighborhood.

I could live in 800 sq feet no problem. I did growing up and 20 years of adult life. I would however not be happy in an apartment. I would want to own it and also be in a rural area but near medical. I still would like to build a semi tiny house and have it on a small private lot.

    062.jpg NOSSIR!

I would require a minimum of 1400 sq. ft. if single.

The Railroad alone requires 500 sq. ft!

My wife and I are quite happy rattling around in our 2800 sq. ft. California Ranch on 3/4 acre.
