Then again, auto repair shops are now adding on a cost of "materials used", as in cleanup rags, etc. The shop we go to does this, but at the same time, they give a so-called "free" carwash and have a SUV to take customers home and pick them up at home when their vehicle is ready. That is, if a customer isn't going to wait for their car repair and hasn't already got a ride home.
As long as you're told about it in advance, it's okay, and it might work for them as long as they're not competing with shops that don't do that. In the end, all the costs are built into the final bill, anyhow. However, given the likelihood that restaurants that are charging customers for items like employee healthcare have not lowered their other prices but are simply adding that on, I probably wouldn't patronize such a place.
