Before moving into Assisted Living I played both games daily. Bocce first then the pool. I sure miss playing the game

Back in the olden days when our gang of kids were growing up, we always had a sports net across the pool . We have a "sport pool" that is shallow on each end but deep in the middle, so it's designed for "net sports". We have played volleyball or badminton many, many times but it's been a while since the kids have been home due to Covid.

Water Volleyball is good exercise for adult seniors.

Bocce I used to play frequently at neighborhood outdoor parties but all those neighbors are gone. I still have my set of fine Italian balls. It has been years since I did pool volleyball. I enjoyed it but my favorite was beach volleyball. Lots of badminton but my rackets are covered with spiderwebs these days. Have you ever tried pickleball, Lon? A friend used to have a court for it and it was a lot of fun. Before covid, we had weekly horseshoe tournaments in the park.

Yes I played lots of pickleball when I lived in Sun City Roseville. I loved that game. Interesting story about how it was named. Do you know it?

I do! There are two versions of the story both told by the founders which still run the official pickleball company. It was first played in 1965 on Bainbridge, Island, Wa. and it wasn't named for two years. Prichards got a new dog and named it Pickles and it was always running off with the ball, so they called the game pickleball. Another story is because of using a wiffle ball, a ping pong paddle, and a badminton net, it was reminiscent of a pickle boat where the crew is made up from crews of other boats. I hear it is a popular game for seniors in Florida retirement communities. It used to be big around here but not much anymore.

Back in the day, there used to be bocce ball games set up at lots of bars in the Buckhead district of Atlanta. That's the only place I have played it (visiting friends while on vacation from Virginia.)

I don't do a lot of water sports. I cannot swim.

    Oh, I've tried.

I've taken Red Cross swimming classes in my adult years...twice.

I have no fear of water, nor do I have the buoyancy and coordination required to take in air rather than water while self-propelling on the surface. I can swim quite well underwater and with aid of a snorkel all day long.
