So many different types of Mantras occur with so many different faiths. The Hindis developed the word om or um for they believe that was the first utterance of mankind then on the complete other side of the spectrum we have the Catholic saying of the Rosary, another type of mantra. Bottom line is yeah, even though I never considered it as such I suppose I do say a mantra every day and sometimes several times a day prior to getting into actual prayer.
When 9/11 happened, even though I was clear across the country, I felt my panic response activating. To counter that I used a measured breathing technique while thinking this mantra: On slow, deep inhale = In this moment, I am safe. brief breath pause On slow, deep exhale = In this moment, all is well with me. It really worked to calm me down, and I've used the mantra many times since then, including during the riotous summer last year and on 1/6 when a panic response is triggered.
I go to sleep every night repeating a phrase [day by day in every way I am getting better and better] I repeat it about twenty times
(had to look up the definition of mantra) Yeah. I got one:. "Stop It!" Whenever I start thinking about sad things, or mistakes I made in the past, things that cannot be changed, I yell, Stop It!. If I'm alone I say it out loud. Then immediately focus on something else. There is no point in dwelling on sad things you can't change, imo. This is easy for me to do because I tend to be scatterbrained anyway.
