Despite my having studied college Anatomy, Biology, Physiology I never studied the Lymph System. I am pursuing study now because I have a medical condition that involves the Lymph System.
Actually, I do. I just had cancer surgery 5 days ago and it included a microsurgery called a lymphovenous bypass. The procedure connects cut lymph channels to local blood vessels so the lymph has a way to drain after node removal. This is a relatively new procedure that will hopefully help me avoid lymphedema.
In one sense, the lymphatic system can be viewed as a miniature version of the venous system. While it doesn't carry blood, it carries lymphatic fluid that carries all the crap that it picks up from the cells throughout the body, emptying into the venous system, where it can be eliminated from the body. It's a highly important part of our immune system.
