I am fortunate that despite two major health conditions I have NO PAIN but I sure have lots of ACHES in hands feet, legs and lower back. Difference between ache and pain The word ‘ache’ is used to refer to a kind of discomfort in some part of the body. On the other hand, the word ‘pain’ refers to acute discomfort. This is the main difference between the two words. In other words, it can be said that pain is acute, whereas ache is not acute.
I know all about pain at the moment I have a broken bone from my leg / ankle (Fibula ). apparently it’s about 4 inch long break I broke it last Thursday slipping on small gun nuts on a footpath I left it till Monday before seeking treatment ( it’s Thursday today here ) The local hospital phoned the city hospital cause they were going to send me down there for treatment , but the local hospital was told they , need to think about the treatment I need and the city hospital would contact me in 3 days ...nothings happened so I’m peed off ..in pain nothing but a back cast on my lower leg till drs work out if and when I’ll get any treatment
Oh yes, I do. I've had 3 kidney stones (none could be blasted out) very large. Now, that is pain! I also have an arthritic lower back, and it aches in a low grade manner a lot, so I have to take aspirin or ibuprofen most days.
I have more achiness than pain in both shoulders, daily. I've had a rotator cuff surgery in each shoulder. Osteoarthritis set into the left shoulder shortly after the surgery and now have some osteoarthritis in the right shoulder. However, I have 100% FROM (full range of motion) in both shoulders, so that makes me happy. On a daily basis, I have to take at least one VA Medical prescription of 800mg ibuprofen and also take a VA Medical prescription of 50mg Tramadol, when needed. On my ibuprofen only days, I also have to use some CBD 500mg Deep Rub on each shoulder. How do I know that I have osteoarthritis? Had an x-ray done by surgeon's office and my surgeon showed me the osteoarthritis I had. He said, "nothing medical can be done about, except to take/use what you are right now". Winter months here aren't very good for the osteoarthritis, but when we lived in Florida, I had the same pain, so............
Yes, I do know the difference. Aches are fairly constant and daily for me. While pains may be daily they are usually short bursts from permanent nerve damage, things like the Trigeminal nerve acting up or sharp nerve pain in my foot or lower back if I do something foolish and go into the lateral shift. Sometimes aches turn into pains or when the pain subsides I am left with an ache. Hemorrhoids are a great example of what starts as an ache becoming a real pain.
Well, the last kidney stone I had, I went practically crawling into my doctor's office, and I immediately asked for a shot in the butt and told them I was in agony. Then I grimaced for about 15 minutes in sever pain, until it suddenly went away. I've never been so thankful for a shot in my life. So I went to my urologist in the next day of so, and he found where it was and removed it, after I had spend a few days on about 4 oxycodone pills/day (which I hate to take, but in this case, I felt I had to.)
I feel most fortunate that I suffer no daily pain but do have periods of extreme stiffness and discomfort.
I have intermittent pain in both shoulders from 47 years of wearing prostheses and constant pain in my blind right eye.
