We're in the process of clearing out DH's closet and he dragged this out together with a large box of tapes. He says it was a Christmas present from his parents in 1961! We're going to have it checked out and then have some fun playing all the old tapes.
We pulled an old tape recorder out of the back of a drawer when cleaning house and it had a tape still in it. We played it and heard my brother's and cousin's voices recorded when they were playing with it as kids. Now they are old men. It's a time machine and you should have fun.
Yes @Ed Wilson we found some tapes like that with some of DH's now long gone relatives. It will be interesting
Sure I remember them! They're nothing too old to be considered "antique", man! Did any of you own a wire recorder? Hal
I had several over the years and had a Sony for recording guitar. I had a Magnacord from an old radio station that I sold to a place in Hollywood that supplies authentic vintage props. They bought all my old commercial broadcast radio studio equipment including the Gates console control board. That was about 10 years ago.
I used to have a small portable one when I was a kid. I discovered that if I pushed the Record and Play buttons at the same time, they would stay pressed and I could use it as a PA system. My older brother had a large Sears reel-to-reel that was state-of-the-art back in the day...tape is a great recording/playback medium. In the mid 70s I helped a friend build a recording studio in his basement and manned the machines for him a bit. He had a TEAC 4 track reel-to-reel I used extensively.
Here is a similar one that my friend had in his recording studio. That old Crown was a real beauty and did a professional quality recording with a variety of mics.
First time I saw a reel to reel I was A friends and her mother recorded 3 of us girls 14 dancing the 'Wah Watusi'.
