I had trouble getting to sleep when I was in college and in my early years on the job, but I trust that had more to do with anxiety about doing well the next day than about anything else that might make it hard to sleep. I'd be thinking, Oh no, it's 1:00 in the morning and I haven't gotten to sleep yet. I'm going to be tired the next day and maybe I won't do well. What if I don't hear the alarm? I'll be late. Of course, all of that would stress me out more so I couldn't sleep. A doctor even prescribed Quaaludes once which turned out to be a very abusable drug, although not for me. The Quaaludes put me to sleep but I didn't feel at all refreshed the next morning, so I tried them only two nights and threw them away. Once I got more comfortable at school and in my job, I realized that I could do well enough even if I was tired, and, knowing that, the anxiety was gone and I could get to sleep easily enough. Since then, for most of my working life, I have worked the graveyard shift or other odd hours, so I never have developed a normal sleep pattern, which is why I sometimes go to bed at 5:00 am, and, at other times, I might get up at 5:00 am. If I have a deadline, I can stay up for a couple of days straight and not go crazy.
Update on my sleeping process. Since mid June I have been taking something almost every night that has helped me sleep more sound, and has stopped my all over body aches and pain. Except for my back issues when awake. Some of you will not approve - others won't care and a few may be curious. Thc 15mg- actually I only take half of a half of a cube. It is legal in all states except 6. Yes there are cookies and other -quote get high crap, but I stopped doing all that stuff in 1986. I only use it for sleep and pain. I only take once at night. Besides it is not cheap, but if used correctly you will only experience calm, more sound sleep. For me it is better than going on another otc or prescribed drug to help sleep. Just passing along the info, do what you may - or may not do.
No never have , however my BP pills tend to make me a bit hyped up when I take the same BP pill ( only with a diuretic added ) twice a week in place of the same brand with out the diuretic …..so I normally take 3-4 days of super magnesium supplements if I get a bit jumpy it seems to do the trick for me . Just looked at my phone sleep app / Apple Watch slept 7 hours 52 mins ….with 1.34 min deep sleep last night , heart rate 54 Night before I had 8 hours 17 mins …1.13 deep sleep HR 56
I don't have sleep issues, but was thinking of taking melatonin for it's other benefits: -immune system bolstering -improved eye health -antioxidant properties -acid reflux relief -increase levels of HGH
I’ve never taken any prescription or over the counter sleep aid but I do sometimes drink Sleepytime tea. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not.
I fall asleep pretty fast at night. I’ve been taking a taurine and Benadryl just before bedtime. I didn’t take them for that purpose but I think they might be at least part of the reason I doze off so quickly. I didn’t use to do that.
Melatonin. 1 mg calmed my thoughts down enough. Since last month's operations, 4 mg is more helpful, but not completely helpful. Might try five mg.
I do take a prescription sleep aid, very mild.I live in a sometimes scary building that things happen at night at times and Aspergers lays a role as well.I am scared at times here but it is what it is.
We both take melatonin about a half hour before bedtime, and usually go right to sleep at night. I do have to be careful not to drink coffee in the afternoon or it keeps me awake; but Bobby drinks so much coffee that it does not affect him at all if he drinks coffee in the evening. Melatonin has some good anti-aging benefits and it is not addictive at all, just a natural hormone supplement that we lose as we get older; so another good reason to use it .
