So why is your ego a good thing and not the enemy? Is the ego a good thing or a bad thing? There are many benefits to having an ego, what do you think about it all?

An ego is what drives a person to do better than others.......just as long as it's kept in check and doesn't take over.

Everyone has an ego. I think the question is how much control your ego has over your life.

Egos get bruised and egos can be bruising.

Timid people have egos, they may just repress and subjugate them.
Aggressive people may have fragile egos and are building defenses around it.
Narcissists are 100% ego, and it crowds out any sense of Self or concept of others.

A healthy ego can enable you to defend your Self, and it can also permit you to suffer fools.

I have to admit the word “ego” has negative connotations for me because I tend to associate it with arrogance. Entirely possible that’s just me, a pet peeve. I despise arrogance and, when coupled with anything else, ignorance, cruelty, etc., it makes for the most despicable of humans imaginable. I will take the humble, unassuming person every time.

There are indeed some bad aspects such as ensampled with egoists, egotists, and egomaniacs but there is some good to be had of it.
As stated before, everyone has an ego and figuratively speaking, everyone likes their feather stroked so in order to get that recognition or “stroking” most people will aspire to feed that other emotion called Pride by succeeding or reaching some goal.

Without an ego, no one would bother venturing out of their safe zone and aspire to greater heights.

One needs to be willing to admit it if they are truly wrong, I have beliefs that others don't agree with but I am not wrong.

I'd forgotten, I even posted this topic.

Anyway, I think my own ego is healthy enough to know when I need it ;)
