I got my mail-in ballot for the November 7 elections for judges, school directors and borough and county councils and don’t know a darn thing about any of them. It’s like that for almost every election. If you don’t vote regularly they drop you from the rolls and you have to reapply so I have to pick. I’ve searched candidate's websites in the past if they have one but they only say good stuff about themselves of course. I’ve been resorting to looks in some cases. I got a political ad for county council for 5 candidates running as a team and with their pictures. A woman has one side of her hair dyed blonde and the other side black. A male candidate has the sides of his head shaved and a big patch left on top. I guess I’ll not be voting for weird hair. The others I don’t know.
For offices that I know very little about, I generally vote against the incumbent. I figure that if they were doing a good job, maybe I'd hear about it.
Don't feel bad. This man is a state delegate in Virginia: The newspaper said he won the last election because he "had more heels on the ground" campaigning for him (I'm sure they were proud of themselves for coming up with that.) The voters made history herstory. So we'll take your weird haired candidates any day of the week...except on Wednesday. That's when we get our nails done.
A politician who is a remarkable statesman is a rare thing it seems to me. Voting them out seems the better thing to do unless, as you say, they rise above the crowd and gain attention for their good deeds.
It’s easier when one limits the field by knowing whom one will NOT vote for. After that, I take the position as an employer and when all have been satisfactorily interviewed and their past history considered, I pick the one I want to work for me. Right off the bat, would I consider interviewing the man / woman that @John Brunner put up for display. No. That person has too many outside influences and obviously concentrates a lot on looking like a girl for him/her to be totally focused on the needs of the public. My opinion.
I don't even know if I will ever vote again. If the Republicans don't SHUT UP about cutting Social Security they may as well go home and turn out the damn lights. With all the other ridiculous handouts and government wasted spending, they have to harp on Social Security and Medicare??
I haven't seen where any Republican has actually said that. I see where the liberals say that a Republican said that. To say that would be a sure death knell to their candidacy.
Yeah, I haven't heard that yet. In past years, I've often heard the Democrats talking about Republicans cutting Social Security but I don't remember them actually doing so.
None are going to blatantly pitch a cut in benefits, but they do suggest a sneak attack. Chris Christie and Nikki Haley are pushing "means testing" and raising the retirement age. The means testing is simply a way of denying benefits to "wealthy" people. Excuse me, but anyone who paid into that system (and had no choice but to do so for their entire working life) should benefit from it, even if they are Elon Musk. Means testing is just another way they can start sliding the limits and cutting more people out of benefits. Will we leave it up to the government to decide WHO is wealthy? So people who worked to put money aside for retirement for decades are suddenly cut out of receiving SS benefits that they were forced to pay for? Yes, lets penalize people who lived responsible lives! What a great idea. Why don't they take the easy way out and eliminate the payroll tax limit so that people pay payroll taxes on all their earnings?
Take care of the fraud in Medicare and SSI and that alone could also increase budget. Cutting SS and Medicare should never even be discussed unless, all of congress takes a cut first. Oh lets see, possibly stop helping all the outsiders who are determined to get more than their share.
Leave SS and Medicare alone and stop paying for healthcare, housing and schooling for every Tom, Dick and Harry that illegally crosses the border. It was said today that that is adding the equivalent of 4 Ukrainian wars to the 'budget'.
There is a report out saying that all those costs you cite for illegals is gonna cost New York $500 billion!!! And those folks are merely getting the leftovers from the border states. It's all intentional.
