I'm tired...daily. Take multivitamin & much other.. Thought it might be thyroid. Saw Doc..he did blood tests..not diabetes. He said all normal So..why... still s-o-o tired. Your thoughts... recommendations. Thanks
I’m no help for you but for what it’s worth, you’re not alone, I’m right there with you. I can count on one hand the number of times in a year I wake up feeling truly refreshed. I am so tired of feeling constantly fatigued and nothing helps.
Did your doctor just test for diabetes and not address the general tiredness issue? What about your iron levels? You doc should be offering to guide you through this (not that we mind chipping in.) If you drink caffeine, stop. If you eat too much sugar, stop that, too. I know you addressed your bowel issues. You think things are transporting through so quickly you're not fully absorbing nutrients?
I think I mentioned before about taking additional B12. Lack of energy might be low depression, as well. You can try taking SAM-e. It is a little pricey but does seem to help with energy and mood. It takes about 4-7 days to kick in. Natures Made and Jarrow brands work the best, in my opinion. I have taken SAM-e off and on over the years, especially in the winter months. You can read the reviews on Amazon. If you are already taking medicine for depression, then don’t take SAM-e too. I have low energy too and I hate it, but I think it goes with aging.
I just read a little about SAM-e, having not encountered it before. Once I get my vitamin & mineral panel done and rebuild my supplement program, I may add this to it. As Krystal already said, don't take it if you're taking antidepressants. Most websites also say that it interacts with St. John's Wort and L-tryptophan. I imagine a few folks here are taking at least one of those. Dr. Axe has a good article on SAM-e that reiterates a lot of what the WebMD article says, and they both contain Krystal's antidepressant interaction admonition. I'll second Krystal's endorsement of Natures Made and Jarrow brands of products. I also like NOW.
Well, every-other day when I take my VA prescription of 50mg Tramadol, for some real pain I get in my left shoulder from osteoarthritis (from a rotator cuff surgery I had in 2013), I can get pretty hyper. Of course the Tramadol is now known as a narcotic/opioid and only available by a doctors prescription only. But, on the day that I take it, I can get quite few things done at home. Like today: paying online bills, doing some laundry and a few other things. Obviously not everyone believes in any kind of prescription pain medicine, but it sure has heck beats having the pain and not being able to do much. Wife was getting a lot of fatigue from her prescription hypertension medication she was taking, so she is going to only take half of the medication daily instead of the entire medication. One of the effects of hypertension medication is fatigue, so.........
It is available in 200mg and 400mg. When I need to take SAM-e, I take SAM-e 400mg first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. You can take it a few more times a day if you aren’t “feeling it” in a week or so. I find I only need to take it once a day, plus if you take it too late in the evening, it may keep you awake. You can find SAM-e just about anywhere other than Amazon also. I have bought it from Amazon, drug stores, and some grocery stores. When they go sale in the store or drug store, sometimes it is buy one and get one free.
Wouldn't it be handy if we could just plug a charger lead into ourselves when we went to bed, and then wake up fully charged., But whereabouts on our being would we plug the charger lead into.
Uh, that would be a short-lived (but effective) burst of energy. "What's good for the gander" comes to mind.
i have been getting additional B vitamins from the kombucha, and it seems like it gives me more energy. Sometimes, that is not good, because I have been drinking some at night time, and it has been taking me longer to fall asleep after i drink the kombucha; so I am going to try and make sure it is diluted with lots of ice when I have it at night. Kombucha has just about all of the B-complex vitamins in it, since it is a probiotic drink, and the main thing that i noticed with drinking it, is that my head/brain/mind is substantially clearer and way more focused. This might be why i am laying in bed and planning stuff that i want to do, instead of just falling right asleep, even so, it is a good benefit to have the focused thinking and more energy.
I read that kombucha does not like decaf tea (or coffee.) I'm assuming it's the chemicals/processes that are used. So assuming you're using regular tea, the caffeine might be what's keeping you up at night.
The kombucha itself eats most of the caffeine in the tea, as well as the sugar used to sweeten it. I can’t remember the exact figures, but you maybe get about 10-20% of the caffeine from the tea after it is done culturing; so it is not the caffeine or the sugar that does it, it is simply that sometimes, my mind just wants to not shut down. Overenthusiastic comes to mind as a description, @John Brunner . Another thing that I am now wondering about , is if my eyesight is getting better ! I had read about it helping stop cataracts, and the story of the man whose wife was making kombucha and he started drinking it and didn’t have to have surgery after the one eye that was already done. I think that I might be seeing clearer, and I need to go outside at night and see if there are still those hazy circles around streetlights, like I have been seeing for a long time now.
I think there are at least two kinds of tired. One is when you do something you used to do, but you become tired sooner now. The other is when you are too tired to even start something. I feel both at times. The first could be a health problem others have already address. The second one is sometimes fixable if you just get started doing something. Set a very small goal. If you finish it, set another. Doing something seems to get the juices flowing and you aren't as tired anymore. Just a thought. Works for me sometimes.
