My greatest fear living here is wildfire. We have several fires nearby (by Alaska standards) but we have been unaffected so far and don't expect any danger unless something starts over the 4th weekend. The entrance to Denali National Park is closed by fire, but the highway going past is still open. We don't even have smoke at this point. Rain to the south has shut down the fires there. https://akfireinfo.com/2024/07/02/blm-alaska-fire-service-fire-update-5/
Last year there were a lot of fires in Canada and it affected us miles away in the northeast with smoke dimming the sky.
We're under Drought Watches. I don't know how many weeks it's been since we had rain. There were thunderstorm watches a couple of evenings ago but showers were spotty. They were calling for PM thunderstorms for every day from tomorrow through mid next week, and those are falling apart. I know some members have reported rain, so this isn't a nationwide condition, is it?
We have had waaaayyyy too much rain here this year. But in drought years I worry quite a bit because we are in woods and my husband is lazy and piles brush around the property perimeter until some cranky person deals with it. I pay attention to any smoke in the area during those times. We have a burn area on the farm but I don't burn during droughts. I think it is illegal. Of course it just takes on idiot...
I'm concerned about amateur fireworks around me tomorrow. We're supposed to have thunderstorms from 2PM until dark, so hopefully those will wet stuff down...if they materialize.
