This movie is free on YouTube. Type the title into a search engine or follow this link: There are comedic elements in it but I found it, taken as a whole, profoundly serious. The dialogue is witty without being too whimsical and story's writer shows his characters as masters of a broad range of historical religious questioning. The main characters are perhaps a bit too heroic and virtuous for complete realism, but it is, after all, a movie. If you'd like to see a film which delves deeply into matters of faith I think you will enjoy it. I found it addressed some major questions in my own personal struggles with belief and does so with an heuristic approach. As such, parts of it were personally disturbing, but in a good way, if that makes sense. If you do watch it please express your thoughts about it in this thread. I'd like to know if you got as much from it as I.
I'd seen that quite a while ago....but since you posted it. I watched it from a different angle. I agree that there was a comedic element but never the less a stab at the serious question about God(where is He, why so much evil).
I'm glad you watched it again. I don't share that many experiences with others as far as movies or music. It's good to have some feedback. Thanks for your comment, Al.
I wasn't clear about if Frank (I forget his first name) got the dog back. It seemed not. That part was sad, but i' was glad to see Frank get unstuck from forever grieving for his wife. I really enjoyed the movie. Lots of it echoed things I've been thinking about lately. Is faith a choice? That goes against the grain for me. How can you choose to believe something? I'm out of my depth there.
