We used to buy food from the market in bulk and depend on the freezer for storage. But there came the time that we realized frozen meat is not healthy. Marketing chores is now almost daily so we had to train our housemaid for that. On weekends or when my husband is around, he would be the one to buy from the market. That is to assure that what we eat is fresh especially the meat and fish. My sister has 2 refrigerators and I always see the freezer fully packed with meat. But since she is a nurse and her husband is a physician, I may not be in the position to tell her about fresh food.
Not sure why you say frozen meat is unhealthy @Corie Henson , I guess if it is factory processed it would contain additives, but freshly frozen raw meat should be ok I would have thought? I don't eat much meat alt al nowadays, but in the past I have frozen fresh meat myself at times, which as far as I knew carried no risks.
We always keep meat in the freezer. It's not practical to go shopping every day. We get fresh vegetables from the garden in season but the rest of the year it is canned or frozen.
I buy meats from the grocery store usually fresh. I try to get them on sale, so it's cheaper. I found a good recipe for fall off the bone soft pot roast that all you have to add is rosemarry, thyme and orgeno all at a pinch to the pot roast and it's so soft to eat. When you've dentures and partials you appreciate soft meats. Meats got so expensive locally and I watch for sales. Thankfully meats and other grocery items go on sale weekly like they do for Safeway. We have 5 major grocery stores: Safeway, Times, Don Quiote, Foodland and Marukai Wholesale Mart for meats frozen or fresh. The local open markets or farmer's market sells only vegetables and some stalls have already made foods and vendors sometimes are there selling already cooked pork sandwiches or other foods to go type of booths.
