This is long, but it's an interesting discussion. Viva Frei interviews a young man/woman from England who has undergone surgery to transition from a male to a female. The discussion can be disquieting, but s/he discusses everything that led up to and after the surgery. S/he is unhappy with the coercion that led to the decision, as well as the outcome, so there may be a lawsuit in play, but it's not a rant. It's an interesting and reasoned discussion, particularly for someone for whom all of this is about as foreign as can be. Given the subject matter, it can be uncomfortable, but the discussion is not overly graphic and it is interesting. I listen to Viva Frei a lot because his podcast is not something that requires me to stop what I'm doing online to look at something. In this episode, Viva Frei asks questions that are never asked by the mainstream media, and the answers are given calmly, lucidly, and well-stated. You will hear the f-word from time to time, however.
I have seen posts by a number of "trans" people who later felt they were actually gay, not trans and regretted the surgical transition wishing they could go back. An awful lot of those who actually go under the knife fall to suicide after a few years as well. It is all very sad.
I am impressed with how well-spoken TulipR/Ritchie is, however, especially in discussing uncomfortable subjects.
I have a pretty low opinion of some of the medical professionals involved in this subject. There are all manner of dysphoria concerning states of mind or physical conditions. In the vast majority of those cases, psychiatric care is usually recommended and often provided. However, gender dysphoria is not recognized in the woke community. It is automatically considered a type of bigotry for refusing to recognize the free expression of an individual. I think we are in a sad state with this whole subject. Just my $0.02.
Salon Magazine June 16, 2022 Gender transition treatment minimum age lowered to 14-years-old The World Professional Association for Transgender Health has declared that the minimum age for gender transition treatment can now be lowered to 14, which is two years younger than previously advised. Along with that decrease in the age requirement for hormone treatments, the association has also moved to lower the minimum age for some gender reassignment surgeries to between 15 or 17. Under the new guidelines, girls will be able to start puberty blockers between the ages of 8 to 13, and two years later for boys, which allows anyone considering gender reassignment to have an expanse of time to decide for themselves whether they'd like to move forward with the next steps in terms of further treatment. ************************************************************************** The article also said that emotional and cognitive maturity will factor in, as well as parental consent. As we all know, that means "for now."
Etymology (ET-im-OL-ə-jee) is the study of the history of the form of words and, by extension, the origin and evolution of their semantic meaning across time. It is a subfield of historical linguistics, and draws upon comparative semantics, morphology, semiotics, and phonetics. Wikipedia a and other online resources squirm to define the word gender. It's etymology gives some insight. My comments are italicized and it is my bolding below: Etymology and usage Derivation The modern English word gender comes from the Middle English gender, gendre, a loanword from Anglo-Norman and Middle French gendre. This, in turn, came from Latin genus. Both words mean "kind", "type", or "sort". They derive ultimately from a Proto-Indo-European (PIE) root *ǵénh₁- 'to beget',[18] which is also the source of kin, kind, king, and many other English words, with cognates widely attested in many Indo-European languages.[19] It appears in Modern French in the word genre (type, kind, also genre sexuel) and is related to the Greek root gen- (to produce), appearing in gene, genesis, and oxygen. The Oxford Etymological Dictionary of the English Language of 1882 defined gender as kind, breed, sex, derived from the Latin ablative case of genus, like genere natus, which refers to birth.[20] The first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary (OED1, Volume 4, 1900) notes the original meaning of gender as "kind" had already become obsolete. Reading between the lines I see the the definition as more akin to "giving life to" or capable of the same or, more simply, starting something. - as in engendering. Man-hating radical feminists worked hard to redefine the word. In the mid-20th century, a terminological distinction in modern English (known as the sex and gender distinction) between biological sex and gender began to develop in the academic areas of psychology, sexology, and feminism. Before the mid-20th century, it was uncommon to use the word gender to refer to anything but grammatical categories.[3][1] In the 1970s, feminist theory embraced the concept of a distinction between biological sex and the social construct of gender. Most contemporary social scientists,[10][11][12] behavioral scientists and biologists,[13] many legal systems and government bodies,[14] and intergovernmental agencies such as the WHO,[15] make a distinction between gender and sex. It seems as if the 'woke', having no other god, worship confusion.
When I studied German, I learned that many nouns were assigned a gender, apparently not that unusual in languages. When I studied biology, I learned that there are two sexes. Gender can apparently be assigned while sex is an obligate feature, not “assigned” by anyone.
Isn’t it ironic that when a male applies for gender reassignment surgery, there are only 2 genders under scrutiny ergo. there’s.only one box to check. Male to Female Not Male to one of 74 or so genders.
I recall one of the funniest lines from "Three's Company." A guest star played a female-to-male role, The apartment's landlord, played by Norman Fell was asking his wife: "Helen, I can understand how they can take things off. But how do they put things on?"
Nebraska State Senator Machaela Cavanaugh speaking before a vote to ban sex changes on children in the state. She does make a valid point.
uh….k. I get her point about loving the trans person but I’m not too sure she fully understands what the vote is for. Now, if she is for castrating young males who have no idea what they’re doing, I guess she does understand. Personally, half way through her chants I fully understand that she’s nuts.
One of my employers, Danaher, Inc., had a technique called the “5 whys” that is useful in all kinds of scenarios; because the reason things happen or the motivation people have for doing things, is sometimes buried deep. It’s simple. When someone makes a statement like that (“We need trans people”) one simply asks “why?” And when they give you the reason, you ask “why?” And proceed to do this 5 times. If you can get someone to honestly respond, you sometimes get to an interesting position. Of course, in a company environment, you are required to dig for an answer. That’s hard to do with someone who is on an unhinged rant. I however would be curious to see where it ended up.
