Last night we finished watching the last episode (biopic) of "Genius: Aretha" starring Oscar nominee, Cynthia Erivo. There were things we learned about Aretha that we didn't know:
The somewhat heavy smoker. Drinking. Two pregnancies when a young girl. The Black Power thing.
Father who was both a celebrated Pastor and singer, but also drank and cheated on his wife twice.

Some of things about her life, we were truly shocked about, but all-in-all, very, very interesting.

However, like the movie, The Blind Side, story of NFL Baltimore Raven Michael Oher, Michael never seen the movie and didn't want to.
It was reported that Aretha's granddaughter stated the episodes were somewhat-to-very untrue about her grandmother. However, National Geographic states the episodes about Aretha are true.

The second biopic of Aretha is starring Jennifer Hudson, called "Respect". Now that we've seen the first one, want to compare to this one, "Respect", when it comes out.

Either the things in the first biopic weren't true, or the family resists in telling about the real story.

I and my dad met her for about 5 minutes in Freeport, Grand Bahama at the El Casino. Though I may like her music I can’t say that I was impressed with her in person. She was hammered and wearing a stretchy kind of outfit that was low cut and thigh length. At one point in a somewhat scattered conversation she hooked the top of her “dress” with her thumbs, stretched the material 4 or 5 inches from her breasts and let it snap back whilst asking if we liked her dress.
To me, not only was the conversation low class but the move with her outfit accentuated that opinion.

We are really wondering what the difference will be between the two biopics. Will "Respect" be approved by the family more?

The word “approved” is more than likely a term that will be used loosely. Unless there’s a buck to be made, very few people want their family’s dirty laundry to be hung out and even then, it depends on how much money is in the mix as to how much laundry will be washed or left as is.

I remember when we first watched the movie, The Horse Whisperer, starring Robert Redford. It was about a real Horse Whisperer. When we were in Las Vegas in 2000 for the NFR (National Finals Rodeo), we met the man who the movie was about. He was at the Cowboy Christmas Show. We told him we had seen the movie and loved it and he told us that he never got a penny of residual money from the movie. Not a cent! Guess he had no "rights" to the movie, but it was definitely about him. His name is Buck Brannaman and his does presentations as a Horse Whisperer. He came up with the name Tom Booker for Robert Redford in the movie. Buck has also written a few books.
