Picture this: A booth on the border of Mexico and the U.S.A. Not just some ordinary booth, but a carnival booth complete with a barker shouting, "Hurry, Hurry come right this way, cross the border and win a new Smart Phone! Yup, that's what our great government is doing now. If ya get caught coming across the border you do not get sent back but instead win a Smart Phone as a prize. No, not those beat up little Obama cell phones but a real, 100% smart phone. Ya know, the ones you probably cannot afford but can buy one for somebody else via your taxes. And you might ask, "why can the government not afford to give social security recipients a raise but can give illegal aliens a new phone"? Because we are legal and the aliens are illegal which puts them ahead of the list for all the neat free stuff that our taxes pay for. Just shoot me!!
Well, here is another chapter to this story, and I am not sure if it makes it better or worse........ You decide ! So, here is the deal. These illegals that were just mentioned come across the border, get their free smart phone, and now they can go job huntig. But wait ! They don't have a Social Security card......... What to do ? Oh, yeah, steal someones ID and get yourself a job. Good to go. Now, tax time arrives, what do they do now ? Of course, they use the stolen ID to get their income tax return back. So, here is the thing about this story. The IRS knows that people are filing income taxes using stolen identities. They don't care as long as they get the money. Now, these illegals with stolen identities are also the taxpayers, and therefore helping to pay for the free cellphones (and everything else) that the rest of the illegals are getting when they come across the border. What has this world come to , that this is alright now ? http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/a...grant-theft-of-ssns-irs-chief/article/2588288
"What has this world come to , that this is alright now ?" I ask myself similar questions, just about every day. As I remember America, our country always took strides to better it's citizens lives, not make their lives here of doubtful value, as it seems to be getting nowadays. Frank
This happened to us back in Feburary of 2014, we tried to use our credit union bank card a couple of times, but it was denied. This was the day our youngest son died, so it took us a couple of days to get to the issue. When my husband inquired at the bank. He was told that there was a freeze on our accounts because someone had hacked our accounts and drained them dry. I was hopping mad. We had set our accounts to freeze at any cost by card over $500 per day, so how could the credit union allow anyone to drain our accounts *before* freezing those accounts. That took four trips to the facility over a period of a month before we forced them to replace all but about $87. We had to close out all our accounts and open new ones, and we had to squeak through about five weeks before our finances were available to us again, which was very stressful considering we had a funeral to take care of. Then when we went to file our taxes, yep you guessed it, someone had already filed my husband's taxes. That was just under a $1000. So the IRS had to do a lengthy investigation, and I received that refund a couple months after he died. Then I had to get permission from them so I could sign for the refund. Turned out that it was an illegal who had somehow stolen my husband's ID. So in the end, we do spend more of our taxes having to deal with all the cost of investigating and dealing with these problems. Do I want to buy them an iPhone that to for me is a luxury? I think NOT.
@Ina I. Wonder Ina, a closely related encounter, I had, but less severe in consequences than yours. We had not filed any tax return since 2003: no income, no tax due. Then 2 years ago, my wife was forced to join Obamacare, which required that a tax return MUST be filed. First time in my life, I sat before an IRS agent, to discuss things. He was nice enough, cool and collected, almost aloof, until we both learned a bit more about each other. He asked as he entered sruff in his computer, talking while he typed, when and where did I get my Social Security Card? I told him 55 years ago, in Berwyn, Illinois. He asked when I was last in Oklahoma, and did I ever live there. Told him no, just passed through it moving to AZ. Believing me, he revealed that someone in OK had the previous year used MY Social Security number, and MY NAME, to request a tax refund of $7800! I was flabbergasted! He hardly batted an eye over it, guess it's commoner than we think. He told me not to worry about it, IRS would be sending me a specific PIN # to use when I file our return. He agreed there was no need to file returns all those years; going in I expected to automatically be treated like a presumed criminal; I was not, just the opposite. I asked him about the S.O.B. who had stolen my identity. He could not reveal particulars, but remarked the person is likely in jail already. No repercussions, yet. However, two of my credit card accounts have been hacked, one to the extent they duplicated the plastic card, withall it's encoded info, and it was being used by someone for everyday purchases, McDonalds and gasoline purchases. The bank which issued that card called me, asking if I had been using the card in Michigan within the past couple of weeks. I said hell, no! Finally, after applying lots of tact (I threatened to close the account) the agent admitted that somewhere, someone, likely some type on institution, is actually duplicating peoples' cards and selling them as black market product, probably to folks with no credit ability.
