I dont know how many members love dogs but I was never without one when younger and capable of taking it out twice a day. Unfortunately I cant get out now without help so it would not be fair to have one but since living in this bungalow dogs have managed to finish up here even though I live down a fairly long drive and my front door is up another walk way well off the front of the Close I live in. I will tell the story of them another time.
Does anyone here have a dog?????. It would be lovely to see a photo of it and read any comical things it may get up to.

The dog who I have written the poem about here was a regular visitor to my home when her blind master was away entering swimming competitions.
My daughter -in- law used to work for the ASA and when the person who owned Gina was taking part in swimming competitions my d-i-l looked after Gina when her owner was abroad taking part in the competitions and always brought her to see me.
Gina knew where I kept my own dogs chews and she would sit very patiently waiting for me to give her one. Unfortunately I dont have a photo of Gina but I am sure you all know what one looks like.

She was such a lovely dog I got very worried about her when I found out that she too was going blind but she was adopted by a wonderful couple who went to live in Spain.
Gina finished the rest of her life ambling along the seashore where there are no obstructions.

The young girl mentioned in the poem is my granddaughter.
    ........................................................................

    A FAITHFUL FRIEND.

I am Gina a Golden Labrador, a guide dog for a master who cannot see
We have been together seven years and been as happy as can be.
Sometimes he has to leave me to enter swimming competitions
He is a wonderfully confident swimmer and has no inhibitions.

I must tell you he has won a silver medal and received the M.B.E.
And as he is my friend and master I’m as proud as proud can be.
I am sometimes left with a work colleague when my master goes away
I settle down and as I am so well trained I don’t run about and play.

Titbits must not distract me but I am allowed a very small chew
I like to wander round sniffing though especially somewhere new
I lie down on the floor with a young girl who tickles me on the belly
Oh boy! What a blissful feeling that is I go just like wobbly jelly.

I think I will soon be retired now because my own eyes are getting dim
And I hope my master will get another good dog to look after him
They will find a good family to care for me and quite contented I will be
I think that perhaps I will be ending my days with someone guiding me.

awww Maisie that's beautiful, thank you for that :D

As everyone here will tell you I'm a Dog fanatic...although we have no dogs at the moment here at home due to work commitments and travel.

However I am the proud grandma of 7 beautiful grandfurkids... and co-incidentally to your story..they all now live in Southern Spain with my daughter who owns and runs Boarding kennels and a cattery...

I have so many pictures of them I could fill a whole forum.. ( 3 labrdoodles, 1 very old very loving staffie, one miniature chihuahua , a Belgian Malinois, and an elderly Dobie)...

....and many who have passed to rainbow bridge

I like dogs, but my cats don't and they outnumber me.

We have had many dogs, but at the moment we only have one, a Australian Shepherd that we got when my last dog, a German Shepherd/Alsatian, died. My current dog has been by best buddy and companion during my recovery from an injury three years ago.
