My wife is watching the last 30 minutes right now. I never saw it in it's entirety, but think Eastwood as well as the movie itself was nominated for awards, may have won them. If you saw it, you will remember it. Heartwarming story, contemporary depicting bigoted attitudes. What was (is) your thoughts about this flick? It happens that I owned a 1972 Gran Torino like Eastwood's, gold in color though. A good car, but not so good in some ways, as the car-makers moved into the "emissions" era. I noted in the barbershop scene, the barber was the actor who played the lady cop's husband in "Fargo", in which he appeared to be a complete dolt. Here, he was flawless, like John Goodman, who cannot make a simple statement interviewed "off the set". Frank
I love that movie @Frank Sanoica ,The movie has an example of younger family members trying to "run your life" when you are still quite capable of managing your own affairs ....He "paid back" his interfering/ cold hearted family by leaving his estate to the church and the Vietnamese young man next door ..I have experienced simular issues from my husbands daughter trying to tell us what to do when we are more than capable of managing our own affairs ...After all I've never been bankrupt or ever been in serious debt with nothing to show for it like her ...She even wanted to know WHO was included in our wills and "told us" to take out a loan on our home which was paid for .....to start a dog grooming business. This was not Our daughter ....she is hubbies daughter
@Kate Ellery Take heart, Kate! It was even worse in my family! I hesitate to "even go there....". Frank
I have watched this movie several times. Clint Easrwoods character is hard to like, but as the movie progresses one realizes that he is willing to go to great lengths for those he cares . He also knows he is dieing. If he is going to die any way, why not make it count by using it doing something good? His involvement in the lives of his neigjbors and his subsequent death helped a family that had experienced a difficult life.
the 2 young people were excellent here . Bee Vang who played Thao and his sister Sue played by Ahney Her the basement scene. I have a copy in my collection
