The Riddle Of The Dinosaur” By Bert Leston Taylor

"It is a little-known fact that some dinosaurs had a ganglion in the pelvis, which was so large (at least relative to the brain in the head) as almost to deserve the title of second brain. This prompted the following delightfully witty verse by the American comic writer Bert Leston Taylor" (1866–1921):

"Behold the mighty dinosaur, Famous in prehistoric lore, Not only for his power and strength But for his intellectual length. You will observe by these remains The creature had two sets of brains -One in his head (the usual place), The other at his spinal base. Thus he could reason a priori As well as a posteriori No problem bothered him a bit He made both head and tail of it. So wise was he, so wise and solemn, Each thought filled just a spinal column. If one brain found the pressure strong It passed a few ideas along. If something slipped his forward mind Twas rescued by the one behind. And if in error he was caught He had a saving afterthought. As he thought twice before he spoke He had no judgement to revoke. Thus he could think without congestion Upon both sides of every question. Oh, gaze upon this model beast, Defunct ten million years at least". ....(Read more)

The fierce Dinosaur was trapped inside his cage of ice.
Although it was cold he was happy in there. It was, after all, his cage.

Then along came the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

The Lovely Other Dinosaur melted the Dinosaur’s cage with kind words and loving thoughts.
I like this Dinosaur thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.
Although he is fierce he is also tender and he is funny.
He is also quite clever though I will not tell him this for now.

I like this Lovely Other Dinosaur, thought the Dinosaur.
She is beautiful and she is different and she smells so nice.
She is also a free spirit which is a quality I much admire in a dinosaur.

But he can be so distant and so peculiar at times, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.
He is also overly fond of things.
Are all Dinosaurs so overly fond of things?

But her mind skips from here to there so quickly thought the Dinosaur.
She is also uncommonly keen on shopping.
Are all Lovely Other Dinosaurs so uncommonly keen on shopping?

I will forgive his peculiarity and his concern for things, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.
For they are part of what makes him a richly charactered individual.

Jimmy covers the viral song "Dinosaurs in Love" written by three-year-old Fenn Rosenthal about dinosaurs falling in love before going extinct.

    Dinosaur Tribute

    on the slippery back
    of your remains
    we roam the world

    such a huge blessing
    even in death,
    you help drive the world

    in death too
    we roam the world
    with you on our wheels

    what a huge blessing!
    your remains it oils
    the world's progress

    one day
    we would fight over
    your remains
    inking ourselves
    oily thick black

    The Dinosaur Bones

    by: Carl Sandburg (1878-1967)

The dinosaur bones are dusted every day.
The cards tell how old we guess the dinosaur bones are.
Here a head was seven feet long, horns with a hell of a ram,
Humping the humps of the Montana mountains.

    The respectable school children
Chatter at the heels of their teacher who explains.
The tourists and wonder hunters come with their parasols
And catalogues and arrangements to do the museum
In an hour or two hours.

    The dinosaur bones
    are dusted
    every day.

    Dinosaur Rodeo

Have you ever been to a dinosaur rodeo?
We swear they are lots of fun
But be careful of those big feet,
Or you might get squashed like a bug.

    There’s Velociraptor racing,
    And Brontosaurus riding,
    Iquanodon roping,
    And Megalosaurus wrestling.

    You’ll need a good imagination
Or your very own time machine
To travel to the Mesozoic era
    And join the rodeo scene.

    But first grab a lasso,
    Your cowboy boots and hat,
A dinosaur prod will come in handy
    And don’t forget the snacks.

    Dinosaur wrangling isn’t easy.
You must be brave and strong.
But trust us, you’ll have a blast.
Just be careful; you can’t go wrong.
