Yes. My father worked as head of electrical for Texas sate fair grounds,so we had been to several circuses/Only to Barnum and Bailey once that I remember. Saw my first one around age 8. I liked it all but the traipse people and tiger acts the best
We went to every circus that came to town. It's in my blood. When my father was a toddler, my grandfather was a sideshow performer, Electro the Amazing Electric Man, and my grandmother was his "pretty assistant". They traveled with the circus until it was time for my father to start school. I dreamed of running away and joining the circus. I still do. I could be the Fat Lady.
I remember going to the Clyde Beatty Circus that came to my home town. For some reason, I was not overly impressed. Carnival rides and the midway were more fun and interesting.
Took my kids to the circus...when they were young It should be something no one should miss...if they can.
We took our kids to the Barnum & Bailey circus many years ago. I always get depressed when I see those poor elephants.
I don’t think that I went to any circuses when I was growing up; I have been trying to remember. We lived in a small town (5,000) and so large carnivals or a circus only happened in a large town like Spokane, a 2 hour drive. I have gone to several circuses, and enjoyed watching the acts, and how well trained the animals were; but it has been many years ago since I went.
I think we did go to a circus but honestly can't picture it in my mind, mostly our Douglas County Fair in Oregon. I remember my mother telling me my dad's family were Circus people and I think she was trying to encourage me because I was really good at what we called "tumbling" back then, and oh yeah, I was really good at Acrobats. But my fave was the Monkey-bars: LOL!!
Wasn't that the Tiger guy, and he was in an Abbott and Costello movie? I loved the rides for sure, my fave was the Scrambler
Wow that's neat Mari, maybe your people ran into my people somewhere out there! But my dad was from Ontario Canada, and his parents (grandparents I never got to meet) were from Wales.
it's sad some of the changes, especially for our children/grandchildren. Their all more into computers, and other technology than the things we kids used to not be able to wait to get to go see like the Circus, or Fair. I thing now that I thought about it a little, we always had a circus come to Douglas County, I just don't remember getting to go to one much. We was kinda po
Clyde was the lion and tiger guy and co-starred in the 1949 Abbot & Costello movie, Africa Screams. As for carnival rides., the Scrambler was great. I also liked the Tilt-A-Whirl.
Nice reading your circus fun times, but closest thing to a circus was the fairgrounds acts for me. It came to town once a year.
There's a big one coming to Orlando in several months. They're already selling advance tickets. I think there will be no animal acts, though.
