I happened to surf into drone racing one day. It's sort of boring and fascinating, all at the same time. The stuff I've seen has been done inside an arena with fluorescent-lighted gates, tunnels and towers. It goes so fast, and in a darkened area with such tiny drones, it's tough to actually follow them. I have a hard time figuring out how those guys can react so fast, and exactly what they see on their monitors. Edit to add: Here's a video of what the guys see through their goggles.
As I said, on the one hand it's fascinating, but on the other hand it's tough to follow. There was one race where the winner looked like a beginner...he just plodded along well behind the pack. Then one by one, everyone else crashed and was out of the race and the slow guy crawled victorious over the Finish Line. They run every once in a while on network TV and routinely on one of the cable network sports channels (I think it's NBC.) As you can see from the video banners, look for DRL Drone Racing.
