I was really involved in the new consumer interest in High Fidelity.

I remember the top components that were mentioned whenever Hi-Fi addicts got together, such as the great MacIntosh 60 amplifier, along with the high-power Fisher and excellent Harmon-Kardon amplifier.
They all used 6L6 or 5881 tubes in the final power output stages.

The top turntable was the classy and precision Rek-O-Kut, and the best speaker systems were University, JBL, Altec, and Wharfedale. When Stereo came along, I bought a pair of Altec "Voice of the Theatre" speaker cabinets, which required taking a 2nd mortgage on my home.

Those speakers were so great that people used to come over just to hear heavy classical music on them. They produced such volume and accuracy that they were used behind the screens in large movie theatres.

The top tape machine of the day was the Ampex 600, used in recording studios.

Yes, those were the days...when some of us with a little money became "audiophiles"!
