So, with the seniors plight of trying to live each hour we have left in mind, the government takes an hour and puts it into a savings plan that we can only draw out once a year.

Banks are starting to fail now so it's a matter of time and we won't have any coffee. I have always drank Folgers Classic and the time I did not have access to Folgers was the 5 years in the Army. Now the Army probably had a good brand of coffee, however when you brew it in a dirty sock that's a whole different story. I am not joking, it was strained thru a dirty sock "Cloth" and you can imagine how bad it taste. I've said once before that the US Navy has the best chow of all our military. You couldn't eat better in a commercial establishment than a Navy Chow hall anywhere in our world. I wonder why that is ?

Dunno, but I do remember that during jump school, the coffee and chow got better transitioning from the first mess hall of week one to the mess halls of week 2 and 3.

You know all the drop outs got temp duty until reassignment and I have no doubt many grabbed the kitchen duty. My best meal in RVN was in a large chow tent out in the jungle courtesy of the 9th Inf, fried chicken and taters and gravy. I have no idea where they found the fresh taters because they were non existent due to the climate. The 13th Bn like all aviation units had those very small air bladder style refrigerators where they stored rations to be delivered to the company level. That's why the milk was always bad, just not cold enough. The milk came in via Hawaii so by the time you got it the date was already past good. On firefly our mess people would bring out ham sandwiches and chocolate milk while we fueled. It was greatly appreciated but the chocolate milk was always sour. Some crew chiefs tried putting some iced sodas in the Battery compartment but it never stayed cold very long. I can't remember ever having anything to drink other than water for eating out in the boonies. My best street food was in Can Tho downtown, I bought some shrimp fried rice from a street corner vendor and it was damned good. In a nice clean plastic sack and a plastic fork. I will never forget it because it was right across the street from one of the better little restaurants, the place was specializing in Italian Cuisine ha ha I had seen those sides of beef or water buffalo hanging out in the air covered in flies. No Italian for me !

Good Morning and "Welcome to Main Street Coffee"! o_O I have been away from this place for the past seven months, tending to family matters. Today is my first day back! I was amazed to find the key to the front door.....still under the mat! A BIG THANKS goes out to the Barista Army of volunteers, who pushed and pulled every day or so to keep this place running. Special thanks to Shirl and Nancy, along with Lois, Yvonne and Marie, who filled orders...and gave "orders" freely! A BIG JOB that is much appreciated.

Somewhere along the line our old espresso machine has been replaced with a brand, spanking NEW one! The Jukebox appears to have been restored also!
Muchas Gracias, Amigos!.......Bring on the COFFEE!
