I understand that California has issued a request that people not plug in their electric vehicles during times of heavy electric usage. Ironic, huh? It will probably get worse as we move into air conditioning season. California already has trouble meeting its electricity needs; PG&E has been fined a huge amount for fires caused by downed power lines, so they will undoubtedly be more cautious distributing power, and now the electric vehicle craze is causing additional issues.
And in related news, 95% of sweating, hitch-hiking, eating-dinner-in-the-dark Californians were in favor of nationalizing an Electric Vehicle mandate. Gee, that level of intelligence is gonna give academics a run for their money.
I read some time ago that if we switch to all-electric vehicles by 2035, we will have to build a new nuclear plant every moth until then just to meet the increased demand for power. I think the agenda is to get everyone onboard, then just limit the amount you can drive. They want to go back to a medieval system with the elite and the surfs beholding to them.
The mileage tax is still on the table. I have read that the tech is already in place in the newer electric cars so big brother can glean how many miles is driven so they can calculate the amount of tax one has to pay.
This would [intentionally] wreak havoc on rural areas, as the Left tries to corral us all into more densely populated regions.
Sorry about their bad luck ..... NOT! California will just buy more electricity from Oregon requiring us to put up more wind turbines and solar farms, both of which are inefficient here and environmentally damaging. We generate all the electricity we need with hydroelectric power which is the safest and least environmentally damaging way to produce electricity. All the electricity from tens of thousands of wind turbines that damage the environment of the Columbia River Gorge and other Oregon mountains goes to California. They feed it into the grid to fool the fools that think it is to Oregon's benefit.
Well, why shouldn't electric vehicles pay a road use tax? Why should we fossil fuels drivers bear that burden at the pump? It is common knowledge that the government taxes are higher on a gallon of gas than the oil companies' profit, yet as far as I know EVs aren't paying a dime.
I think the real reason is to install tracking devices on all of our cars. Democrat administrations here in Virginia have tried to get this passed twice, ad have failed. Every vehicle in the state is subject to a mandatory annual state inspection, and the odometer reading is captured at every point. These private inspection stations are already electronically tied into the state because certain regions require passing an emissions test before the DMV will issue you renewed tags. The last Democrat governor (Northam) was talking about getting rid of state inspections. I don't believe he was doing that for the populist vote, he was doing that to remove the alternative to tracking devices. I recently learned that at some point, the state started levying a fee against EVs as a way to have them pay for road maintenance. I don't think it was much (a Tesla owner said he got out the door paying $140 for the road fee AND his regular annual registration), and is based on some calculation of "average miles driven." The amount sure seems to be nominal.
For those of you who are unaware (maybe this requires a separate thread), 13 states and DC are participating in the Transportation & Climate Initiative. Those states are: -Connecticut -Delaware -Maine -Maryland -Massachusetts -New Hampshire -New Jersey -New York -North Carolina -Pennsylvania -Rhode Island -Vermont -Virginia Apparently there are different "programs" that states can opt in/opt out of. I believe that Virginia's wonderful Democrats have committed that we will limit the purchase and REGISTRATION [meaning existing vehicles that are on the road] of internal combustion engines around 2030 for trucks/busses and 2050 for everything else. I don't know if this has been universally adopted by all of the above states.
