I'll be watching "The Longest Day" from my collection.

(That film is loaded with Hollywood's top actors)

I wasn't born yet but I have done lots of study on the war. Mostly though I just watch old movies like Tora,Tora,Tora. which was interesting. I mainly studied the history of the generals and times. Like the Bonus Army and how that was treated. The parts played by some of our presidents,Islam and Hitler was also interesting.

If I recall correctly, the Japanese started off using the poorly educated to fly those planes that had enough fuel for a one-way trip. Then they started destroying their future when they put the college educated in the cockpit...and those guys we a little less easily influenced to lay down their lives for the Emperor.

My mother was in England during the war. Her brother (my Uncle Bill) was a Spitfire pilot. I never met the man, but he somehow made certain that his commemorative RAF watch was given to me. I'm not sure why.

This is not a WW2 period piece...it's early electric. I have no idea the circumstance under which it was presented.

Honestly, I'd like to give it to a place where it might be displayed. I don't want it going to Goodwill or Craigslist (or the landfill) when I die.

But I doubt it's really got much true historical value.

    Great suggestion!

The maker is ALFEX, located in the Italian-speaking area of Switzerland.

The watch was made in 1983:

I sent them an email asking about its history. The RAF was commissioned in 1918, so 1983 would be an odd anniversary (65th) to commemorate.

Interesting a Swiss watch huh? How original, lol. I had a picture that was really old and I gave it to a antique shop. I figured it was worth something but didn't want to deal with it at the time. I like real China too. I have a few cups saucers. I don't think anyone will appreciate them in the family though. I found one set at Goodwill store and had to fight a few older ladies to get out the door with them.lol.

Actually, I know a few folks who were around on D-Day (I bet the parents of nearly everyone here lived through the Depression.) I recall when Kennedy was assassinated and was too young too understand the grief and the feeling of doom. I bet those who experienced WW2 have the same feelings/memories of that era (although most of us here were born shortly thereafter.) For subsequent generations, wars have not been felt like that here at home unless you knew someone who was deployed (or were deployed yourself.)

Years ago (during G.W. Bush administration) I saw that the French continued to gather on the beach at Normandy on D-Day and form a human "Thank You!"
