Is it because they steal other peoples' property? Raleigh artist's design stolen and sold as knockoff on Temu, retail app says it will make changes (wral.com)
Any time a business can sell something for $5 that its competitor has to sell for $20, there has to be a catch to it.
Yes, there’s something wrong but some people just can’t get enough. I wouldn’t want to give them my credit card #.
We have become so used to buying cheap tack that we no longer question it's source. 'Made in Hong Kong' used to be the label on all rubbishy goods. Now we need to be more suspicious. Selling things cheaply is a way of getting currency and creating wealth. What will the money be spent on....weapons to destroy the West, surveillance systems so they can spy on us? The main reason why China and India have become so powerful is because we wanted cheap goods and cheap labour. Greed has now made us vulnerable.
I’ve bought items from TEMU and never had a complaint ….yes it’s Chinese but to be fair where can anyone buy stuff now that’s not made in China …….? we even have canned sliced peaches and canned beetroot from China in a local store that preaches it stocks mostly Australian sourced foods ….rubbish …we have to pay twice the price for ham, if we want Aussie products cause other stuff is from who knows where . I brought a couple of really nice looking large pots to plant climbing bankisia roses in that are from Vietnam ( not TEMU ) just a local garden shop
Well in a way those Chinese outlets bypass the Walmarts and Costcos who do the same thing as they slap on layers of profits and displace domestic workers and local retailers. It's not the "Cream of China" product-wise, but you can find a lot of the same shabby bottom-tier goods in the megaretailers as well.
I guess that's the big difference between buying Chinese stuff through a retailer and buying China-direct. Second to that is going to be the ease of returning stuff to a local retailer. The high bar to getting stuff back to China reduces their costs of taking stuff back (cost of freight exceeds cost of the product), so they can charge low prices.
The video exposed that Temu sells fake items. It's sort of like buying a Rolex watch or a Vera Bradley bag at a flea market. It may look real but it's still a fake. My son once bought a Rolex watch from a guy in the local poolroom for $25. He knew that it was fake, but he bought it as a gag. He flashed it around for a while then put it in a drawer. I don't know what ever happened to it.
