Watched a programme last night. The Japanese live long and healthy lives I like their community spirit The thing that struck me is they eat a lot of Seaweed/kelp This is very salty surely, soy too is salty so I was puzzled they are so healthy They do exercise a lot, nothing full on, very gentle Interesting nation. Anyone been there ?
Never been there but I always admired the Japanese people. They advanced their nation from a medieval life style to modern day almost overnight. Then, after war destroyed it, they rebuilt their country into an ultra advanced in many ways, nation.
The kelp has a lot of natural minerals in it which are very healthy to eat. It is salty; but it is a whole different kind of salt than the chemical concoction which we purchase in the stores. Most of the salt that is sold in the grocery store has been processed chemically, and is basically devoid of all natural minerals. These trace minerals are very important to our body, and eating the sea vegetables like kelp helps to replace the lost minerals we need. The Japanese also eat a lot more vegetables and a lot less meat and sugar than is in the western diet, which I think is another thing that helps to keep them healthy and add years to their lives. Both sugar and salt have been so processed that what we buy in the store has lost any nutrients that is found in sugar cane or in natural sea salt; and that is one of the reasons why I think it is important to modify the intake of either of these compounds. I use natural coconut sugar or honey or sorghum for a natural sweetener, and I like the Himalayan sea salt , which has extra iodine and trace minerals in it.
I remember hearing about people drinking sea water to get natural minerals. This was a few years ago. I'm a bit fuzzy about the details but I do remember thinking it must have been nasty.
@Yvonne Smith - thanks for the info Yvonne, interesting and agree with what you say I watched a programme about China recently and the most beautiful sight, besides the scenery, was elder boys on bicycles with a box attached to the front which was covered, when they reached the park they uncovered the boxes and they were in fact bird cages. They released the birds that went up to the trees singing their little hearts out and the smiles on the elders was priceless Time to go home - the birds returned to their cages. Most people live in flats in the city so these daily trips, give the owners and the birds a treat - wonderful
I have never been there @Patsy Faye but would like to go, was it the "The Real Marigold on Tour" in Japan programme that you watched?
I did Terry - I will watch anything to do with Japan and China - I love their spirituality and community spirit
Japan used to get a bad rap because of the cheaply made "jap junk". The same kind of rap China now gets on some of their products. These days, Japan is producing top notch stuff, for the most part. I've seen and handled some sporting rifles and shotguns made in Japan. True, they were not cheap. But the fit and finish was flawless, as good or better than anyone's best. Beautifully made arms.
