I have had this same issue at the Krogersstore where we shop; so I always check th store receipts before we leave the store. It seems like they do not keep their prices updated, and something will show as on sale; but then I get charged full-price for that item. The last time this happened, they said that the sale was out of date; but since they still had the sale price sticker on the shelf, they had to give me the sale price. Kroger used to have their scan-right guarantee, and when they made mistakes like this, you got the item free if they overcharged you. Now, they just adjust the price but you still have to stand in the customer service line. As far as saving receipts, I do not do that unless it is something that has a warranty, or that we think might have to be returned. Once we know we do not need the receipt any more, it goes in the trash.
I keep receipts on applaiances or any big ticket item. I attach the receipt to the manual store in a gallon baggie. This way if something goes out, I can see how long we have had it, cost and date bought. It has came in handy a time or two. Grocery receipts I only keep until logged in my debt book.
When selling our house a few years ago, the prospective buyers wanted to see a list showing all major home improvements (including costs) we made since moving there 7 years earlier. We also kept any appliance manuals we had as they requested these as well.
@Cody Fousnaugh Cody, you have never mentioned being married before, I don't think. Was your ex a Hoosier? Was it then that you lived near Carrol Road, north of Ft. Wayne? If I'm too "snoopy", just tell me "mind your own damned business". Frank
No, you’re not too “snoopy” (LOL). This is why wife and I could easily live in a small town......we are easy to talk to. My first wife and second wife (same lady) was born in Northern California and moved to Southern California at a very young age. I met her when I was working in EMS. My step-parents small farm was on Dafforn Rd, near Carroll Rd. Now, I’m not a true Hoosier, being that I was born in the state of New York, but left at 6 years old to Indiana. I’ve never claimed NY as my home.
@Cody Fousnaugh My wife was born in a tiny burg between Churubusco and Ligonier called Wolf lake. Her folks lived outside of 'Busco then, but bought a house right on Round Lake when she was about 4, so she's a "laker", really loves the water. Her younger sister was born at the lake. So, she spent her first 28 years in and around 'Busco, married her high school sweetheart, spent a year with him in Alaska, 1970, and worked in the Dana Plant in 'Busco when I came back there to work in '78, newly divorced, I was.
