Yesterday I read online about an Olympic Contestant who got engaged to her girlfriend. One of the pictures showed them giving each other a kiss. This is the Olympics/Sports, so why have this as news? Trying to push the Lesbian and/or Gay thing onto the public again? Then, this AM, I read about an African-American Swimmer (Simone Manuel) who won Gold and made a big statement about African-Americans in the U.S.. One of the things she said was: "I would like there to be a day where there are more of us and it's not 'Simone, the black swimmer,'" she said, "because the title 'black swimmer' makes it seem like I'm not supposed to be able to win a gold medal or I'm not supposed to be able to break records, and that's not true because I work just as hard as anybody else. I want to win just like everybody else." As I said, this is the Olympics........why can't we stay away from the Race and Sexuality thing?
I agree on the first part The second - well if that's what has been said to her, her response seems correct to me Why on earth would she be termed a 'black swimmer' she has a name and is from the US
I haven't watched the Olympics in a very long time, I used to enjoy it long ago but for some reason it got boring and confusing for me. Maybe the way it was covered.... Seemed to jump all over the place, wasn't sure if I was watching something live or taped. Even the opening and closing ceremonies bore me now. I always did like the skating though and that's about it. Can't comment on the black swimmer because I didn't hear what was said. All this PC has me confused. We aren't all created equal, some groups are just genetically better at things for whatever reason and you can't deny it. For some reason blacks tend to be taller than white people and that's just a fact. Look at all the basketball players...how many white guys are that tall? Not too many. I've never looked at the statistics on height but on average I would say blacks are taller in general than white people. White people tend to be taller than Asians. I'm not stereotyping, these are just facts. Mexicans also are usually on the shorter side. I've gotten off track here, lol. I actually can't comment on what you said, Cody because I haven't watched Olympics in a long time. Have there been other Olympics where people got engaged and were shown kissing? If so, then I see nothing wrong with it. I could care less who kisses who and if It's been okay to show happy couples kissing when they're heterosexual, than it should be okay to show lesbians kiss. That's equality. If you don't like it you can close your eyes. Homosexuals don't affect my life because I really don't even know any, except a childhood friend. I forgot to say that there are many talented black people in all sports so I don't know why the commentator would have said "Black" as if it's unusual for a black person to be a good swimmer.
I haven't watched it but have seen some clips that made me wish I had seen some things I just think the whole event is too big, too many sports taking place
Maybe that's why I quit watching long ago, or maybe because there was always some doping controversy or something but I used to watch both winter and summer Olympics faithfully but not in about 15-20 years.
It was the African-American swimmer that said she wants people to know her by her name and what she won, not just as a "Black Swimmer". She made the comment, not the media. As far as the Lesbians kissing goes, my wife and I totally agree that some people will do anything to "make a point". We are both Christians and our faith doesn't accept homosexuals. When a Lesbian or Gay couple are shown on the show Property Brothers or Love It or List It, we turn the channel. Just think that there are times when some groups of people push their beliefs too much.......and that includes Religious groups. I believe last year an NFL player came out and said he was Gay. Not much was said about that, but NFL is the Olympics either.
If the black swimmer made that comment for no reason then she's calling attention to herself when nobody else is And I think that's one of our problems in society. We should all be equal and no special treatment for anybody And that should work both ways. As for the homosexuals, I don't think any religion condones them but then maybe that's the problem with religion, Didn't God create everyone on this planet? I'm not an expert on the bible and maybe this isn't in the bible in these exact words but didn't God tell you to love thy neighbor or something similar? @Cody Fousnaugh , I can understand your religion not condoning homosexuals but you won't become one by watching a TV show with Gay people in it. Are you not allowed to even know gay people? What about adulterers or other things not condoned in the bible. I'm not trying to force anything on you, I'm just trying to understand. I don't know what religion you are but being a lax Catholic I know that my religion doesn't condone homosexuality but didn't realize I can't be friends with someone who is. What about if you don't know? There are actors that play roles and some are straight and play gay and some are gay that play straight. My best friend at 10 was just a tomboy and we never talked about these type of things so I even spent the night with her many times and didn't find out she was a lesbian til I was married but it didn't surprise me at all. She always seemed more like a boy, although she even married and had 2 girls But then divorced and from what I heard because she still lives in Pittsburgh , she lived with a woman. We're not close because of distance but I would never unfriend her because she's a lesbian and her being one doesn't make me one. I don't think people choose to be homosexual just to annoy others, for some reason that's what they are attracted to. She tried...even getting married but was miserable with a man, so I do believe it's something in your Body chemistry that makes you that way. These are my thoughts and experiences with someone who turned out to be a lesbian and even as 10 yr old I felt something was different about her but with my naive and innocent mind I didn't know what. Sorry, for going off on a rant but just trying to understand different views. Also, don't assume I'm Someone that is out there for LGBT rights....I'm not. I don't care either way, what other people do is their business and I'm fine with it as long as it's not illegal or hurting other people.
She said she made the statements to support African-Americans in the U.S., since her Race has been in the news so much lately. Actually, my wife knows much more about what the Bible says than I do. She has told me that too many people take some things in the Bible "out of content". It does say something about "accepting others", but who really, and I do mean "really does that? Some may try to do that, but.......
I accept most people until I see that they are ugly on the inside and that's what I base acceptance on. You could be black, white, yellow, gay, straight, whatever but when you're evil or ugly then I won't be hanging around you.
The world culture is veering towards label - it seems that everyone has a tag except the normal people who are not associated with any sector. It's a good thing for us that we have no issue about color but our regionalism is also a sort of racial discrimination like it's a shame if you cannot speak straight Filipino or if you are small (in height) and with a flat nose. Oh well, it's not just the Olympics but in the movie industry, that sexuality is very prevalent. There are many couples belonging to that industry who are of the same gender and got married.. and they are flaunting their status in the social media. The gender power is gaining power with the social media in defense of their homosexuality.
I feel the homosexuality ship has sailed and there's not much anybody can do about it. It's been around a long time but hushed up. Wasn't Tyrone Power gay? We know Rock Hudson was, maybe Aids bought it out into the open since it made it difficult to hide. No conservative will ever be able to reverse the trend especially since there have been a few Republican politicians caught in the act. Liberals agree with it so you don't have to approve or like it or be one but it's here to stay. Are there some that are just taking advantage of publicity...probably. They're ones that will usually be bisexual And be whatever gives them publicity like Miley Cyrus and a few others like Mickey Jaggar, David Bowie, and this was in the 60's.
I know most of you don't agree with me, mainly on religious grounds but I'm just one of those types that I save my hatred for the really deserving people and just try to get along with the rest.
