Am watching the latest King Kong movie today. Why do the helicopters get within arms’ reach of King Kong where he can destroy them when they have rockets and Machine guns that can reach him from very safe distances? For that matter why do all martial arts movies have the guys with guns within arms’ reach too? The purpose of most non edged weapons is to be able to use them at a safe distance. I used to teach arm self defense to seniors, rap and mugging victims as well as those with restraining order against violent boyfriends or husbands. First thing I taught them is to create distance between them and their attacker, There is an old expression about not bringing a knife to a gun fight but in the movies it seems that a knife or sword works well in a gun fight because all the guys with the guns get real close like holding a gun right against someone’s head as if that will kill them more than if shot from a few feet away.
