Kirstie Alley lost a short battle with cancer today at Age 71, leaving behind her 2 children True and Lillie Parker. No further details are available. RIP, Kirstie.
I just saw that on Twitter. I had no idea that she was even sick. She was an actress that i really liked.
Weird fact about Kirstie: Her father and her first husband had the exact same name, Robert Alley. What are the odds??
I knew one guy name Kelly who married a woman named Kelly, and when they got married, both husband and wife had the same name. Weird also.
Was never a big fan of Cheers, but do remember her first appearance on the show. Ted Danson, bartender, almost went nuts when he first seen her come in the door of Cheers. Some of the characters on Cheers made it pretty big in movies/other shows. I also remember the Look Who's Talking movies with her and John Travolta. She was a great actress and RIP, Alley.
I remember everyone said Cheers would never be the same without Diane. Kirstie Alley made the role of Rebecca, and the show, even better, imo.
I have never watched the show Cheers, but I have heard Bobby talk about it, and he seemed to like it, too. I have seen Kirstie in several movies, and my favorite one was about the two little girls that looked like twins. It actually reminded me of that old Hayley Mills movie, Parent Trap, where Hayley played both parts as herself and her twin sister.
Alley’s representative confirmed Alley’s cause of death was colon cancer. Seems a little strange since typically colon cancer is slow-growing and it was reported that she was very recently diagnosed.
According to IMDB, she hasn't been working a lot since 2015 so it could be that she's been sick but quiet about it.
If she has never had a colonoscopy or some general blood work, she may have not known in the very early stages of it. But when it starts to advance, there are signs that she may have chose to ignore. Blood in the stool makes one think it is hemorrhoids at first. But there are other signs as well. I think she belonged to the church of Scientology, which have different ideas on how to handle illness. My dad died of colon cancer.
