As Sigmund Freud was dying by physician-assisted suicide, his last words were reported to have been, “This is absurd! This is absurd!”

Joan Crawford’s last words are said to have been made to her housekeeper, who was praying by her side. They were, “Damn it! Don’t you dare ask God to help me!”

After a nurse told her that she would die only when she had fulfilled everything God wanted her to, Eleanor Roosevelt replied, “Utter nonsense.” Those were her last words.

Edgar Allan Poe’s last word were, “Lord, help my soul.”

Bo Diddley’s last words were one. That was, “Wow!”

Steve Job’s last words were similar. He said, “Oh wow! Oh wow! Oh wow!”

I wonder if they said Wow because they were seeing heaven or what they believed it to be. My 61 year old second cousin died peacefully in her sleep, having been seemingly well the day before. We should all be so lucky. However, I think in her case she had been struggling for awhile. I saw her the Christmas before last..and she didn't look well to me, she just looked frazzled, defeated and not herself. So much so, I asked her via Facebook if she was OK, I never got a response.

My husband had no last words, just moans. I think about half way through the last 24 hrs, he said "I love you" or I imagined it because I wanted to hear it.

Very touching, Shirley. How old was your grandson at the time?

Michael's last day was spent laughing and playing hidden object on the Amazon Fire box I had bought him for Christmas. The last words I heard him say we're, "I wish I could make you feel how much I love you."

That was his gift to me. I always felt how much he loved me.

My mother and father had no last words. I am not sure that I will either. My hope and prayer is that I will peacefully die in my sleep. And I hope, prior to this, that I will have had the opportunity to have said everything I needed to say. In my opinion, that is the best for which we all can hope.
