As I posited a few days ago, there has now been a bi-partisan bill introduced into the House that would grant citizenship to illegal immigrants willing to serve in the U.S. military. This could serve two purposes: As recruitment dwindles while wars appear everywhere, it would postpone the re-imposition of a draft. Recruitment has fallen behind by 40,000+ against requirements that have already been reduced below projected needs. It would also provide troops that would be more willing to turn against American civilians should the need arise. It could, however, lead to the development of a multi-lingual military that might have trouble communicating as occurred in the recent United Airlines incident where the Pilot and co-pilot misunderstood each other and nearly crashed an airliner as a result. It also opens the possibility of Chinese, Russian and other nations inserting spies and terrorists right into the heart of our defensive network.
