I don't think this guy knows the meaning of self defense. I don't understand, because it says there was a large crowd watching his friend reel in the turtle, and apparently everyone there stood around and let him beat the turtle to death. What is wrong with these people? I can't imagine standing by and watching this. Here's a link to the story. I think if you looked up the word evil in the dictionary, you'd see his picture.
Sick! Not as sick as a story I just posted about "hyenas" in Malawi but sick. I didn't look at the video because wasn't sure if they showed him doing it and I just can't watch stuff like that. There's so many similar videos of people being cruel to animals lately. The world is whacko!
I didn't watch the video either. I can't handle seeing things like that. I can't imagine just standing by in either case, or that there's a living breathing person in the world that actually thinks either situation is acceptable.
Was thinking the same meself ! Its a whole new breed of people today, they just copy each other like sheep Individual thinking should be taught in schools
Individual thinking should be taught in the home, but it seems many parents these days aren't doing their jobs. Unfortunately, many of them were never taught those things by their own parents. Schools prefer to teach group think, that's how they get students to cooperate, and the government likes it that way. I agree, we do seem to be moving backwards, culture-wise, and the future's looking scary.
I agree, should be taught in the home but as you say - very unlikely I agree also - the future looks scary - I'm a bit scared 'now' ...
As turtles go, the snapping turtle does have a pretty bad repuation for being vicious, and especially when it is an alligator snapping turtle, which looks absolutely Prehistoric ! They can get pretty large, and will stand straight up on their legs (not crawling like most turtles do) and come at you, mouth open and hissing. They do not back down once they start after you. Even so, killing the turtle was totally unnecessary. Reluctantly, I did watch the video. The turtle was actually still in the water, and not trying to attack, although it might have been dead by the time they shot the video of him beating it with a hammer. When I lived in Missouri, we had snapping turtles, and they were both mean and ugly; but as long as you left them alone they pretty much just stayed in the water and didn't bother anyone else. They would be pretty mad when we caught one on the fishing line; but all you have to do is cut the line and let them go. Even that might seem harsh; but there is just NO way that a snapping turtle is going to co-operate while you try and take a fish hook out of their mouth, so just letting the turtle go is the safest and best option. For those who might not have seen snapping turtles before; here is a very interesting little video that shows both the regular snapper, and the alligator snapping turtle.
OMG, I don't know what's scarier....having one of those attacking you or rats above your head. Think I'll add that to my list of animal phobias. Rats, snakes, mice and alligator snapping turtle.
I found a nest of eggs one time that had been dug into by a predator I have no idea if it was a skunk or racoon or some other animal. I dug out the remaining eggs took them home put them is sand and waited a little while later I had 12 baby snapping turtles which I release into the wild. There was one that only had three legs but he got along just fine. In my younger childhood we would go out looking for turtles as pets. We Had a sunken bath tub in the back yard to keep them in.
