You want unsweetened juice too. It is tart but you can dilute it with some water if you can't take it straight. I can't drink that much cranberry juice (unless maybe, if it comes in a form of a cocktail, like Beth suggested) that is why I take some cranberry concentrated capsules.
Just because it says "100% juice" doesn't mean it is all CRANBERRY juice. As you can see, apple, pear, and other juices count as juice but are essentially just sweeteners. Capsules are one way to get pure stuff, and another is to buy cranberries and juice them. We use lingonberries, which are kinda similar, as true cranberries are too tedious to harvest by hand.
I like unsweetened fruit juice. Before I started taking statins I bought Tropicana Unsweetened Grapefruit Juice (not from concentrate.) I would add a little potassium chloride to it because I figured the pc would better assimilate taken with the juice, and it added a nice salty edge to the tartness.
Yup. I've made homemade cranberry sauce, and I used a potato masher to make sure all of the berries popped so the sugar could get in there. I learned that lesson the hard (and the tart) way. But that's a good point regarding "No added sugar." In this case it's probably a necessity.
Man, I just placed a Walmart online order. I'll limp along with the juice and add the capsules to my next list. Funny how "100% juice" = a bunch of stuff, and "Cocktail" is all cranberry, albeit reconstituted.
After everything that's been done to me, my urethra-owing status (and its future use) is subject to being questioned.
The majority of what I read says a typical daily dosage for the extract is in the 250mg-1,500mg range. There are capsules in that range, then there are the ones that are some in the 25,000mg range. (I see many of supplements on the shelves that far exceed my understanding of what someone should be taking in day.) So what do folks here find works for them (notice how I avoided asking for direct medical advice, which is 100% my responsibility to decide in my life.) The AZO brand specializes in the arena of urinary health, and I trust them. Their capsules are 250mg, and a daily dose is (2) capsules @ 500mg total. That is in the recommended range I've found. I don't really see anything about overdosing, except the universal "Too much may cause gastric distress."
Do you have gout? Some people swear by black cherry juice for gout, but I don't think it would be the cranberry mix.
Just to get a plug in, AZO has a bunch of urinary tract stuff. I used their pain relief tablets after having my bladder stone removed and other such invasive procedures. That product works very well. I'm impressed, especially considering it's OTC. I had also been taking their D-mannose until I switched to NOW, but I have no way of measuring its efficacy.
