Michelle Obama: Since Election, ’We are Feeling What Not Having Hope Feels Like’

The First Lady was asked by Oprah Winfrey whether she thinks that her husband’s administration had achieved his promise of hope for America.

“Yes. I do,” she said. “Because we feel the difference now. See, now, we are feeling what not having hope feels like. You know. Hope is necessary. It’s a necessary concept and Barack didn’t just talk about hope because he thought it was just a nice slogan to get votes. He and I and so many believe, what else do you have when you do not have hope?”

Michelle Obama adds that she thinks her husband had been a calming voice for the country, comparing him to a parent calming a child that had bumped his head.

“I feel like Barack has been that for the nation, in ways that people will come to appreciate. Having a grownup in the White House who can say to you in times of crisis and turmoil, ‘Hey it’s going to be OK,’” she said.

The Oprah Winfrey special interview debuts on CBS on Monday and is her farewell interview before leaving the White House.

I have only one thing to say to that Michele Obama...now you are feeling what so many Americans have felt since your husband took Office and did not keep the promises he made to so many of us. I'm not a vindictive person but to me it is a good thing that you and yours will feel the hopelessness we the American people have felt since your husband became our President and not only betrayed us but also America.

I guess you can tell I don't care for Michele Obama anymore than I care for her husband....but to me anyone who could let their husband say that he would not want to stop his daughters from aborting their grandchildren if it was not what they wanted....is a sad excuse for a future grandmother! I know she had an influence on Obama....but it certainly doesn't seem to be a good one in my opinion and I will be happy the day all of them are gone from the White House (which should be fumigated once they leave).

Now she knows how we all felt while they were in the Whitehouse, and how freaking scared some of us were they would either continue on with Hillary or she would just dig the hole deeper by herself to finish burying America.

That's how I feel too @Denise Happyfeet...but I can't say I'm not worried about Trump being President and what is going to happen with him too.

After 8 years it is hard to find anything positive that Obama has done. So his term was the hopeless one.

They're out for themselves, he definitely had a plan, but he's fallen short, thank God!! But he was getting darn close:( Too close, we best stay awake from now on.

Well as much as Obamacare is hated...it actually was a good thing for my husband and me the couple of years before we were eligible for Medicare. That's about the only good thing I can thank him for.

I think that when we actually look at what Oprah said and what Michelle Obama answered, she was exactly right. Oprah said that Obama's time was all about hope and did Michelle think that he had reached his purpose in his administration. Michelle then replied that he had reached his goal, and now the American people know what it is like to not feel any hope.

That was his goal, not to give us hope, but to take it away, and he certainly did an effective job of that; otherwise people would not have come out in droves to support a candidate whose campaign slogan was to "make America great again".
So, even though it was not her intention to say that Obama destroyed people's hope in America, that is exactly what she did say, and she was correct.

It wasn't good for me and I didn't sign up for it. I took my chances on being uninsured. Thankfully, I was healthy enough.
