A few months ago, my sister gave me a vaccine shot for prevention of flu, peumonia and some other diseases. She is a nurse, by the way, and her husband is a physician. They both work in government health center and hospital. They got the vaccine free from the hospital. However, my husband refused the shot, saying flu is just a flu and pneumonia can be prevented with proper care of your body. In that discussion, I learned that some colleges require their students to have a vaccine shot against hepatitis and some other communicable diseases. So that means vaccine is getting in fashion, huh. Some 2 weeks ago, the older niece was hospitalized for pneumonia. She was confined in the hospital for 9 days. When my husband asked if that older niece has a vaccine, the parents were defensive. Yes, she has a vaccine for pneumonia but there are different strains, said my sister to which my doctor brother-in-law nodded. I looked at my husband with an inquiring face. I think my husband is right that vaccines now is just a fad and not really that effective at all.
@Corie Henson Pathogens have the nasty habit of being able to change themselves, rendering vaccines ineffective. This is an especially serious problem with antibiotics, and strains of extremely common, and occasionally extremely dangerous, bacteria have emerged worldwide now. Staphylococcus Aureus is one. Here is a picture of it building a "shield" defense against antibiotics: Bacterial cells of S. aureus, which is one of the causal agents of mastitis in dairy cows: Its large capsule protects the organism from attack by the cow's immunological defenses. Drug need to be tested over a period of time before they can be used the problem is testing is done by the drug companies. You can sue a drug company for bad drug. Vaccines are not time tested because by that time the problem disappears on its own. The things that they put in vaccines for controlling the pathogen are dangerous. In the US you cannot sue the vaccine maker for any damages caused by the vaccine. I do not play Russian Roulette.
