Lately when I go to log in to Yahoo, a large banner at the very top of the page proclaims: "DARK THEME AVAILABLE". Now, WTH is this all about, and why would I need it? Frank
I think that this is the color scheme, and many websites now offer that choice. The dark theme would probably have a black background and white letters instead of a white background and black letters. Some offer color choices, so you might choose a dark blue background and light yellow type, but the background would always be darker than the letters on the page. I do not like this personally, but many people do like it. Here is an example.
@Frank Sanoica they give you options - that is all. However many find a darker theme is easier on the eyes.
I sure do ,the light brightbackgrounds hurt my eyes since I lost part vision from stroke. Plus words go blank,so its too much editing.
You made me go look. A dark theme uses less power in OLED screens (it makes a drastic difference in power consumption.) --Some current smartphones use OLED technology, generally only high-end laptops do. A dark theme/background makes no battery life difference in regular LED screens. Link to recent (published in 2021) article on this subject. I also read that a dark background is easy on your eyes primarily if you are in a darkish room, since your eyes will have to do less adjusting from a bright screen (pupils contracted) to looking away from the screen to the darker room (pupils dilated) and then back. If you are in a bright room, dark theme/mode/background provides no benefit.
@John Brunner Ah, so! My usual, skeptical self, accustomed to obeying my wife's insistence that I NEVER click on anything unknown, not understandable, or possibly questionable, as dire consequences may follow, I chose to ask you all. This is especially enforced for spam. So, naturally having heard of strange new options on the internet, Black Forces, or some such rot, I expected the worst. Who knows what new ways the powers that be are using to reinforce their control over us? What more certain way to reach EVERYONE than through the 'net? Frank
