I always heat up my McDonalds burgers, after we bring them home, or take one from the freezer. BTW, they freeze very well, micro up just fine, not soggy or anything, have kept them several months in freezer. Anyways, one time I tossed a wrapped fast-food, may have been an Arby's, in the micro, paid no attention, started smelling smoke! The wrapper had caught fire! Threw water on it, and upon close examination, saw tiny shiny shards amongst the remaining paper. Unknown to me, the wrapper incorporated some kind of fine foil in the paper, but still looked like paper. Metal in microwave oven = NO-NO! Everybody knows that, eh? Here's a pic, however blurry, of our Sharp Carousel Microwave. It's unusual in one way. Down-folding door. But, here's the imponderable, the unexplainable: Look closely at the turntable. It's made of steel! How do they get away with that? Frank
I'm amused by that line that says keeping your burger for months in the freezer. Pardon me for this comment but I don't think that would be a healthy food when the meat is stored that long in the freezer. Well, maybe you just exaggerated the period so as to emphasize the function of the microwave? In fairness to the microwave, it is very convenient as a kitchen implement particularly with the rice. In the olden days, leftover rice is given to the pigs and other animals because it is not palatable anymore after one day. But now, we keep the leftover rice in the fridge and it can be reheated even after several days with the texture and taste like it is freshly cooked.
Corie, we keep food in the freezer for years. As long as it stays frozen it will be good to eat. On the other hand McDonalds burgers are probably not fit to eat when they are made,
My daughter's microwave is weird in that it's a built in but it's under counter level, so you have to bend to access it. Stupid place to put a microwave especially if someone has small kids. My grandson as a toddler put a bunch of hot wheels cars into it and turned it on. Fire! But it worked fine after that for many more years.
@Patsy Faye I would go with the other way around, Patsy. Not meaning to just differ with you, I believe uncooked meat may contain bacteria or other organisms, which might survive freezing and lie dormant. Cooking first, kills them, then while in the freezer, the meat is pretty certain to remain "clean" Just my two cents worth. Frank
Are You Storing Food Safely? "Keep your appliances at the proper temperatures. Keep the refrigerator temperature at or below 40° F (4° C). The freezer temperature should be 0° F (-18° C). Check temperatures periodically. Appliance thermometers are the best way of knowing these temperatures and are generally inexpensive".
