Today I got hit by my biggest pet peeve that totally annoys the heck out of me. I got a load of laundry ready to wash, consisting of all dark clothes mostly jeans. I had gone through all the pockets several times to make sure there was no tissues or important items in the pockets and then loaded the washer. To my surprise when the wash was done and I opened the lid "groan", bits of paper towel pieces all over the washer and my dark clothes. The jeans had tissue pieces inside and out and loaded in the front pockets where I never ever put tissues. I spent 45 minutes cleaning off the tissue paper from my clothes and another 10 cleaning the washer. Now this story may bring out smiles at my misfortune or oh no's from those who have experienced the same results after carefully searching their clothes before washing. I now this evening can kind of smile about it in remembering my anger this morning. But I hope it does not happen again anytime soon. Has this ever happened to you? Maybe you have a pet peeve to share. I would love to hear your stories.
We have a communal laundry here and this is something that does make me mad ! Odd that you did check, how about checking when you remove the clothes to put in laundry basket, rather than on the day of washing Its never happened to me because I hate it so much
Ugh, this happened to me not long ago. I try to make sure there is nothing in the laundry that could cause a problem, but it does seem that sometimes we miss something small that makes a big mess. My biggest laundry pet peeve doesn't happen anymore, thankfully, but when I lived at one apartment complex years ago, if you didn't stay in the laundry room the entire time, someone would always come along and steal the clothes.
Ugh - communal laundry One woman bought a conditioner and the smell was so overpowering that whoever did the next 2 washes they got that smell ! Happened to me once, where I had to re-wash the clothes because of it - I checked for the smell 'beforehand' so that I could escape it
Reminds me of the show 'Frasier' where Daphne, their housekeeper, threw a pair of red panties in on the neighbors load of white tennis clothes. Seems they did something in the laundry room that set her off.
@Ike Willis - I loved "Frasier" If somebody fails to pick up their dog's poo I feel a bit peeved because it gives all dog owners a bad name. I no longer have a dog but have maintained the habit of keeping 'poo bags' in my pocket. if I see 'the deed' I offer them a bag in a friendly manner - with mixed responses!
That's funny, @Julie Stewart, that is a pet peeve of a lot of people. Some apartment complexes and neighborhoods have started doing DNA testing on the poop to identify the culprits. They make residents submit their dogs' DNA samples upon moving in (or, in some cases, I guess when the laws are put into effect), and go from there. Apparently in some places it's a big enough issue to warrant the expense of the testing. Where I walk on the nature paths here, there are stations with bags and trash cans, but people still ignore them and let their dogs poop wherever. I get livid when I step in it and don't realize it until I realize I'd brought it home on the bottom of my shoes and tracked it onto the carpet.
@Diane Lane - there's a town in Spain where the mayor's office provide free disposable cameras to be used to take photographs of a dog doing it's business. If you get the owner in the shot too that helps. They have a 3wall fo Shame " where they post the photos and also publish a gallery in the local newspaper. It had the desired affect.
My observations, which may not be statistically significant, are that it's mostly 20-something guys who don't pick up after their dogs, and also quite a few guys our age, who probably never got into the habit of picking up after their dogs from a time when it wasn't expected. These observations may be influenced by the fact that most of the younger people moving to Millinocket are young couples with kids and dogs, but without jobs or any intentions of working, since no one moves to Millinocket for work any more, given that we are a mill town without a mill. They can buy a house cheap and no one will expect them to work, as there are no jobs. I don't know if 20-something guys are generally irresponsible or if it's just the ones we have around here.
