Yes, the Dresden firebombing, killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians when Germany was only three months away from surrendering was shameful. HP
Civilian deaths were Collateral Damage to the legitimate targets, namely the huge rail yards. What was the legitimate target in the German bombing of London?
"Bomber" Harris, of the British RAF, amassed waves of Lancasters along with large squadrons of American B-17s, dropping Blockbusters to open up the roofs of every building in Dresden, then following with incendiary "firebomb" raids which gutted the buildings, burning them to the ground. The only civilians who were not burned alive were those who took refuge in the cellars, where they were asphyxiated due to the firestorms, which consumed all the oxygen in the city. Harris was branded a War Criminal, although he was not tried. Hal
Agreed! Humankind cannot legitimately consider itself civilized nor moral as long as war and other violence are used to settle disputes.
Just which war are you thinking of ? What war was ever "to settle disputes" ? People want what they do not have, so they go to war, simple as that. Others stir up war and dissension and violence, from their 'safe' poshy seats watching from a distance while they control the priests and bishops and jesuits who control the general populace and the political leaders and the financial institutions and the military forces, such as they do and can. It has been this was since about or at least the 3rd or 4th century, without any improvement (wickedness just keeps growing stronger).
Well, I think Veterans, like myself, now about this topic much better than those whom have never served do. I was in the Navy during Nam, didn't see any actual fighting at all, but was along the coast, in a Destroyer Group firing our two big guns in support of the Army and Marines that were inland. When it comes to Vietnam, we were asked to join in the fighting to keep North Vietnam from taking over the South. Unfortunately, after 10 years, we had to pull out and the North took over anyway. When the Twin Towers got hit, America had to do something. There are those, and understandably, that have not served in the military and do not consider war a resolution to anything, but..........
Best to look into the real hidden reason for the war. "Fifty Years" by Charls chin..... Just like the 1990's, when thousands went awol, privates to generals, because they saw at war they were killing men, women and babies/children, not halping anyone, AND many also saw the drug trade channel in nam and ira and so on...
Those causeing and making the wars and conflicts profit from them greatly, daily, every century, every war, every action, on purpose, planned and executed.
I'm not sure of the moral reasons or reasoning there. There are many many times more civilian deaths in the usa every year now, than during all the years of wwi, wwii, korea and nam.
Someone famous (I don't remember who) said, "You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you." I take the meaning to be that even if you don't want war, war will find you anyway. Do you think Poland wanted war in 1939?
At least if someone does not want war, but is instead a peacemaker, they are blessed. Sure, war happens. The innocent are slaughtered daily. Without resisting many times. They have a future to look forward to in the resurrection, instead of destruction or judgment.
