I just got my ballot and was looking at it and there are quite a few important issues besides President. Death penalty is one and Firearms Ammunition Sales another. English Proficiency in schools... The first person on my ballot for Prez is Gloria Estella La Riva.... PF party. Trump is next Clinton is last on my list. except for the write in.
I had to look up the PF Party.... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_and_Freedom_Party @Denise Happyfeet , make sure you don't vote for Gloria Estela La Riva. Also, I wonder how many people vote by mail? My mail in ballot has to be postmarked by nov. 8 but has til the 11 to be counted. So when the election is called the next day....many votes are still not even in. Not that any of this matters in CA. But I guess the issues are important.
Dumb question for @Ken Anderson or anyone else..... What does Al stand for after Rep on the ballot. Next to Trumps name. I know Rep is Republican but can't think of what Al is.
American Independent Party, maybe? When I lived there, California had a lot of off-parties on its ballot.
But it's next to Trump's name...after the Rep. I tried looking it up but couldn't find anything. Trump is a Republican and that's all.....right? Took a pic @Ken Anderson.
Yes, he is a Republican. Oh wait! I think I remember reading a while ago that the American Independent Party chose him as their candidate too. Is he also there as a Republican candidate? I don't know they work that on a ballot. Probably if they chose to list him as the AI candidate rather than the Rep candidate, it would be so that Republicans didn't vote for him. Here's the story on that from the LA Times.
Okay, yeah. That's accurate then. Most states probably won't have the American Independent Party on their ballot. We usually only have two on ours, but I think the Libertarian Party will be on our ballot too this year.
I received my vote by mail ballot last week, but although I opened the envelope, I haven't explored the contents yet. I wanted to wait until I had a chunk of time, and I've been busy dealing with other things. It'll be my first time voting by mail, and it will be nice to be able to sit down and explore the ballot in full, and look up anything I have questions on, rather than feeling somewhat rushed at the polls.
True, Ive voted by mail since I worked the elections for ES&S many years ago. It's easier and yes, you can even read and understand the issues better. I got mine last week also but I don't always get my mail....only around the time I'm expecting something. Well I'm assuming I got it last week....
I prefer voting at the polling place. Of course, we don't have long lines here. When they count the ballots, they first count the ones who vote at the polls on election day. Then if a clear winner is determined from those, they announce the results even before the early or absentee ballots are even counted, so I'd feel as if my vote didn't even count if I voted early.
