For some reason I’ve been getting a heap of nothing short of disgusting porn emails …..they are in my junk folder and as much as try to stop them ( an odd one will turn up in my inbox ) Gmail

Yes I’ve looked how to block them ..but gmails advice online is to report as spam …but I don’t want to move them to my inbox to mark as spam ( I use a iPad) if I was home I’d more than likely be able to mark them as spam on my old laptop even in junk ( I think) it’s been so long since i used the laptop

So anyone ….got any advice for me ..I don’t want that stuff in my computer and want to try my hardest to get rid of it ..ASAP hubbies tech minded but it’s even got him stumped how to get rid of trash like that …

It’s got me stumped why all of a sudden I’m getting such TRASH …

One thing that you can do is block that email, @Kate Ellery . You can do this right from the junk folder, so you do not have to move it to your inbox. If you are getting junk mail from a lot of email addresses, it might take a while; but if it is repeat email from the same place, you can stop it pretty fast just by blocking the email address.

You go to the junk folder, click on the email, and it will show up with the name of the sender at the top. Click on that, and then you have a list of options. choose the block option.

You don't have to answer this but is there a chance that someone else has been on your computer? Particularly someone young, not because older people don't access porn but because kids are more likely to do so on other people's computers.

While I get a bunch of junk mail, no matter what I do, I don't get much in the way of pornography. I don't actually read most of my junk mail because I can usually tell from the header whether it's something I want but, of the ones I have seen, they're not porn. On the other hand, while I was working for a web directory, not the one I work for now, as it does not have an Adult (porn) area, but another one that did, I was asked to help straighten some things out in the Adult section one week. Besides getting pop-ups that wouldn't stop, I began getting porn spam in my email, this despite the fact that I didn't use my email address for any of the Adult sites that I visited during that venture.

About ten years ago, an older (than me) lady here in town paid me to help her with her computer because it was acting up. I offered to do it for free but she paid me twenty bucks, I think it was. It turned out that it had a couple of viruses on it, which I was able to clear, and added an antivirus program to her computer. She didn't want to pay for an antivirus program so it was one of the free ones, but one that had a good reputation at the time. While cleaning her computer, wanting to see if I could figure out where she had picked up the viruses, I found that the computer had been used to access a whole lot of porn sites over a period of a couple of days.

She told me her grandson had visited her that weekend and had used the computer. A few months later, she was back, angry with me because her computer was doing strange things again. Again, more porn sites. I'm guessing her grandson had been back but she was too busy being mad at me, so I gave her her money back and sent her on her way.

Don't worry. If you're just getting porn in your email, there's no reason at all to think that it's a virus, but don't click on any of that stuff.

All I get is some jerk trying to sell Insurance or ask me to update my private information on something that I obviously have no account or membership. Usually that type of spam comes from a sold address list. It is best to have a really good anti virus that inspects all incoming mail for malicious content. The email source does a very poor job but then they have so much online traffic it would be very hard to check all circulating emails.

I have been getting lots of offers of gifts, money, etc. I don't answer/click on any. I was blocking the addresses after @ as none were from the US. Ads would say they were from Walmart or visa but then the address said stuff like skippy@humptydumpty.com. Pretty sure that is not Walmart's address.

No one at all ….it’s only me and hubby and no no …

I only use my iPad ….but I did log on my old computer ( laptop) just before heading to Queensland a week ago to download a sewing / embroidery design for my machine. ..

I’ve got a very old version of AVG virus on that it would be way ~ way out of date cause AVG wanted me to buy an updated program ..but I planned to get to that job after we get back from Queensland.
    latter this month

..wonder if that has a virus on it due to the antivirus program being out of date? , I’ve known for ages it’s needed updating or look for a free different antivirus program ….up,till Feb this year we only had simple mobile Wifi with limited data got NBN national broadcasting network now
so there’s no excuse …for me to get myself organised ..play less games on here :):D Nah can’t do that :):D

I believe there has been a breach on apple from time to time but I’ve not heard anything about that lately .

But I just remembered about 6 weeks ago I got a letter from a huge furniture store whom I’d bought a
lounge from 2 years ago …they had suffered a cyber security attack where the criminals gained access to
3.000 customers records including email / phone number and home address ..and banking details
which I contacted right away ….all just thoughts how someone would get my email address to,send me that stuff, i don’t do much in the net at all except play games on seniors only and one other one
only buy stuff from eBay and highly rated sewing sites.

    Thanks @Ken Anderson
I’m going to go now try what @Yvonne Smith described …..thanks Yvonne

Since your name and email are on a list, the for sure way to stop the trash is to just change your email address by opening a new account.. The key is to not get rid of the old email account until you are sure you have transferred all the important addresses and access passwords for people and account sign-ins, and update those sign-ins for your important online business. Keep the old email active for a few months that way you can move and change things as you have the time to do so. I see google and a couple other well known providers listed for free email but to honest I use an encrypted mail provider and like it because it is not something that can be opened, even the provider does not have access to the actual text you send. It is based in Switzerland and name is Proton Mail. Just take the free version the only difference is amount of storage and you will start with 5GB possibly more since I opened my account because I have steadily received a huge amount of storage after a couple years on just using the first paid tier which cost me 5 dollars a month. It is not full of fake mail or trash. I still have a password list that has stuff going back for over 20 years. Only a handful are current which I pay a couple bills online monthly and of course my membership in any online sites. For family and close friends you can just make an address list for one mailing notifying them of the new email address. Then update the sign-ins for online payment and banking etc . We all have a couple sign-ins that are most important like banking and bill payments. Just remember to not get rid or shut down that email address until you know everything has been updated by yourself, and you can ask for a received verification from the important ones like insurance and banking etc etc. That trash mail will continue until you fix it yourself. All of us have been exposed over the last decade countless times and our information is out there for the highest bidder. You will find most of this comes from Europe and Russia. It is a thriving business just selling information. You could have just been on a list and they constantly use different return addresses much like all these spam telephone calls. Just think of the bandwidth wasted with all the online fraudsters tying up our resources. If you take that road to open a new account take a moment to copy and paste all your sign in information listed on your browser as Privacy and Security and Saved Log-ins to text so you have a copy because that is the most important thing you don't want to lose. I have never done it but you can lock a text file via password if you chose to do so. Myself I have such good anti virus I don't find it necessary and keep folders of txt only by date I made them.

Like cell phone numbers, e-mail addresses are sold also. There's also a chance that, if a person does find a way to give rid of junk mail they don't want, don't be surprised if the same junk mail comes back.

Actually, I'm now getting an unwanted ad each day in my regular e-mail. I'm told that, if I pay so much per month/year, the ad will disappear. I'd rather delete the ad than pay to have it not show up.

Spam is simply a way of life on the internet, no matter what you do to try to avoid it. The best thing is to simply mark any that get to your inbox as spam, then empty the spam folder regularly. Most email providers have an automatic purge of the spam folder; I believe Gmail dumps everything over a month old but you can manually empty it any time.

I seldom look at email on my iPad since I'm mostly on a laptop, but I'll see how my Gmail account looks on my iPad later.

Probably not, and I say that only because a virus is likely to result in other, more serious problems, than spam. I suppose it's possible that a lack of up-to-date protection might have allowed a bot (or human hacker) to access your email. but I still wouldn't understand the incentive for sending you a bunch of porn spam mails, unless it's something I'm not thinking of.

Yeah, that could be an explanation.

I’ve been stretching my brain cells trying to think of anywhere I’ve given out my email address
and I’ve come up with a couple of times ..one was about 18 months ago I got scammed on Gumtree
it’s prob the same as your Craig’s list I see mentioned on forums , I gave “her” my email address to send me info photos of my plant packed ready to post to me …but despite me triple checking that Pay ID was a safe way to transfer money I lost my money and of course the plant didn’t exist.

At about the same time I started getting these I’d just given my email address to a shop in NSW ( Tamworth) called black pepper ( mostly ladies sports / casual ware clothing)

It was the same as this

long ago, in a galaxy far away, we got porn emails for no reason. This was before we knew anything, maybe 20 years ago. I think it was a version of obscene phone calls when you would not get caught. Today people still do it for fun, I would think, or are testing the waters.

I got some years ago due to my friend using her sons computer ( he lived with her) to email me before she bought
A Samsung tablet so she didn’t have to use his.

That was back in the days of the old desktop computer I had , and hubby deleted all the stuff and restarted as new (maybe backed before hand it up not sure)
I’d only bought it as a refurbished item .

When I mentioned it to my friend about the porn I was getting , she said her son was into that ….so I stopped communicating with her via email and have never communicated with her since via email

Her son died about 5 years ago at only 46 he had mental Heath issues.
