On Wednesday, they were turned away by Border Patrol personnel guarding the perimeter of the site. The members claimed they were attempting to deliver provisions to migrants. The ISUPK is considered an extremist group by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), among others. Breitbart Texas spoke to members of the group outside the gates to the camp that once held nearly 15,000 mostly Haitian migrants. That total now stands at less than 7,000 amid a non-stop effort to reduce the population with removal flights to the Caribbean and other means. The ISUPK members told Breitbart Texas they were turned away by guards but are determined to reach the campers even if it meant traveling to Mexico first to deliver the supplies. Meantime back at the Sharpton Camp, DEL RIO, Texas — The Rev. Al Sharpton toured the makeshift Haitian migrant camp situated under the local international bridge Thursday. At the conclusion of his visit, Sharpton attempted an impromptu press conference. His remarks were cut short after protesters shouted him down until choosing to leave the site. In the video, a visibly frustrated Sharpton can be seen trying to speak to media. Shouts from the crowd of mainly residents included the phrases “go home,” “get out of Texas,” and “our Border Patrol are heroes.” Attendees eventually crowded the reverend’s entourage as they exchanged words–prompting a quick departure. According to a report Thursday by the Associated Press, intending migrants use the outlets to share information that is sent through immigrant communities, directing migration flows through the porous southern border at Del Rio. The AP report explains: Del Rio is just one example of how technology that has put a smartphone in the hands of nearly every migrant is transforming migration flows, according to advocates. Migrants often monitor the news and share information on routes. The most popular platform is WhatsApp, which connects 2 billion people worldwide.
